    Doom Patrol

I think the heavier mood fits the source material better. I mean, the classic 60s Doom Patrol was all about angst. All of them broke my heart, but Larry's story, about having always felt like a monster because his orientation, spoke the most to me personally.

Yeah, that makes DC Universe worth paying for.

    S02.E05: Saints of Imperfection

You have to love that Michelle Yeoh can make something as simple as eating an apple menacing. I do also like that despite everything, she still seems to care about Michael. In her own twisted way, at least. I think there's something wonderful in the Valentine's Day episode being in large part about two halves of a gay couple finding each other across universes. And I guess we finally got confirmation that they're actually married, because Michael's VO used "widower" for Paul when talking about labels. I also loved Pike's line to Leland about thinking he was fighting "alligators" on Cestus 3.

    S01.E13: The Blues

For me, it was the tight shots of her from the chest up. But from an article I found online, she apparently announced that she was expecting in the fall and gave the due date as "late winter." I wonder how long ago these episodes were filmed. I know there were some outdoor scenes, but I didn't notice any fogging breath. Then again, it's been a fairly warm winter in NYC.

Nhan is just pure competence. That's a nice trait to have in a security chief.

    S01.E13: The Blues

Apparently, the show was renewed a few days ago. Is this how the actress who plays Bloom is taking maternity leave?

    Frozen 2 (2019)

    Very effective trailer.

    Edie Windsor's story got me.

    S04.E13: Ghosts In The Attic

If nothing else, we got Patti Murin back as Nina for a scene. I guess she had a week off from Frozen. Wish it could have been in service of a better episode.

    2019 Awards Season

Forget everything else, Into the Spider-Verse is just cleaning up. Good for them.

    Shaft (2019)

Shaft, Shaft Junior, and Grandpa Shaft together at last. Can you dig it?

    Shaft (2019)

Prior to seeing the trailer, I would have been "Do we really need another Shaft reboot?" After seeing the trailer, I'm like "Yes, we do."

    S02.E04: An Obol for Charon

Would YOU want to piss her off? People bought Gregorian chant CDs in the late 90s. And people on Star Trek would have been listening to relatively contemporary music all along had they actually wanted to pay to license it.

    S02.E04: An Obol for Charon

That scene was such a good idea, I can't believe it took 50+ years for someone to think of it. I also like the implication that, despite what we hear, not everyone on the bridge is speaking English. I think I got the biggest laugh out of Bryce starting to speak in Welsh.

    S02.E04: An Obol for Charon

I might have gotten something in my eye when Tilly and Paul were singing "Space Oddity" so she wouldn't be scared. Those two have great friend chemistry.

    Captain Marvel (2019)

Disney Cruise Line does a "Marvel Day at Sea" on some of their cruises, which culminates in a big show where the Avengers and Guardians who are easy to cosplay fight Red Skull and Loki. It's really cool and cheesy, with pyrotechnics and even a cameo by Stan. They've recently added Carol to it (and gave the performer playing her a phenomenally good costume). She gets a HUGE round of applause and cheers in the videos I've seen of it. I'm really ready for the movie.

The DC Extended Universe: To Thanagar and Beyond!

Except Snyder was given the chance to make that movie already. And he fucked it up because his movie was just about how cool Rorschach is.

    S02.E03: Point of Light

There was an Ash Tyler. They grafted Voq's personality over his.

    S02.E03: Point of Light

Also reminiscent, in a good way, of the Vulcan ships from Enterprise. I'm fairly forgiving of the there being different design aesthetics between this and previous series, particularly since they were a lot looser on that that people remember. But I did have a hard time with the look of Qo'Nos and particularly the First City. There weren't even small echoes of what we've seen previously, except maybe the omnipresent fire. I mean, the difference between a TV budget in 2019 on a prestige series vs a syndicated series in 1989 are stark, but they could at least have kept the sky red. I don't think 31 considers the bulk of the Federation to be soft and ignorant. If anything, they seemed to admire people who get to live out their idealism.

I guess, but it was HURTING Tilly. I don't know if seeking out new life requires a Starfleet officer to host a parasite, which is more or less what May is.

    S02.E03: Point of Light

Well, they didn't kill it. It looked like it was just hanging out in midair after Paul extracted it.
  22. Yeah, that was "How Pike Got His Groove Back."

    S02.E03: Point of Light

I do think that was some A+ level skullduggery from Section 31. Since their mission is to keep the Federation safe by any means necessary, and they need L'Rell in power in order to do that. In no particular order, they managed to eliminate her biggest rival, spin that into helping her consolidate power, find a safe place for the baby, and recruit Ash. That's damned efficient. I will say their ship was butt-ugly.
