    God Friended Me

TPTB are sadly heading into alt-universe land. They also are doing their darnedest in making this a Scooby Doo mystery. If Scrappy shows up, I am outta here! There is no freaking way the coinkydinks can be attributed to human chance. However, it can absolutely be the case that God is using Henry and Miles (and likely Neela (Pria) to His own devices. The Rakesh arc is genuinely angering me. If he is really the close(est) confidant of Simon, no way would he have any real freedom now. He'd also be super-well compensated. But, a Simon would be ridiculously jealous of his new toy. I will say I loooooved the moment when Miles took umbrage over Rakesh prying into his financials. Sauce for the goose, Miles. Sauce for the goose. Cara's boss is absolutely correct. If girl wants the career she says she does, she has got to grow calloused. Otherwise, she'll be eaten alive by the yooge school of sharks in that field - especially in NYC! He's also smart to be wary that she can't duplicate her finding of stories outside of her connection to the GA. Her lack of ambition in turning down the promotion is also indicative of someone not ready for prime time. I look forward to the special NY, NY - Las Vegas ep. They can walk around to all the iconic sites and nobody can point out how impossible that is. The shopping is insane, too. Cara and Ali would like that.

    A Star is Born (2018)

Having no clue the man was in the film, I was annoyed as can be that Bradley Cooper affected Sam Elliott's voice. Then, Sam appeared in frame. I got a good chuckle out of that. I loved the dutiful daughter Ally who took great care of her dad and his buddies. I really liked the overall dynamic between her and her dad throughout the film. He was old school and he was not a mom. She was a major dreamer and she was respectful of the patriarchy which raised and LOVED her as they could. Goodness, but BC was not fair! How is it possible for someone to be THAT hot?! The music was, at best pedestrian, imo. The lyrics were at least interesting. I thought using the dog to signify tragedy was an awesome touch. Yet, the evil manager was correct. It was only a matter of time.

I was angry at the anvils being tossed our way to understand the plot. TPTB were clearly playing to samplers (new audience) and treating loyal viewers as infants. The biggest issue for me is that Rakesh is now indispensable (absurd, but that's where we are at) to Simon. As such, his life is no longer his own AND his compensation just vaulted astronomically. IRL, his relationship with Mara (now there's a NY mash-up name!) is ovuh. Joe Morton used some interesting angular moves in shooting some of the scenes. There were a lot of foreground objects in, for this show, the unusually wide establishing shots for conversations. Good stuff. I hope Smash remains in the cast. Dean Martin was certainly a generational Pavlovian catalyst for a kiss or three 😉

I don't get Rakesh's soul-searing love for Jaya. She never gave him a voice on the move to Minnesota and despite all the communication maintained, she refused to keep him up to date on her residency rankings. From my perspective, she got her dream residency which happens to be in NYC. He's been a needy nerd the entire time. She refused to honor that and give up a little personal freedom to maneuver. Not nice. An enormous problem with iconic figures like Simon Hayes in any context is that while it is super cool when a reach is made as it is vis-a-vis Rakesh jumping a bunch of layers, such iconoclasts ruin once favored shiny new hotshots on similar whims. The hand-picked team already in place would eat Rakesh alive and in all probability, resent the stew out of him for forcing a monster move to the Tri-State area. Dad's treatment of Rev. Smash was similarly awful. His superiors plainly wanted the new guy to fully experience priestly duties - sermon's inclusive. The first draft was entirely acceptable from an ecclesiastical point of view (he's going to deliver it with full approval). He is a "baby priest." It is vital that they be encouraged and affirmed when appropriate. Churches are losing too many of them for various reasons. And Daddio's passive-aggressive BS is not called for. The romance with Cara is earned. For me, it's way too early. I will be far more annoyed with the coming necessary soap opera misdirections we all know are coming than I would have been a denial of the chemistry they obviously have. At this point, Neela (Pria) is the one interesting character for me. Well, not including, God. 🙂

The one piece (The LIve Aid sequence) was surpassing. Other than that, this seemed like a reach to me, as well.

I don't see a particularly egregious snub. None of the others was an all-time great movie, imo. But, the winner is among the biggest nothingburgers in Oscar winning histoire.

    Ridiculous best Picture choice. Absurd.

Yes. The protagonists are horrid people. Glenn Close was very good in it and merited a nomination. The movie is a small film about small and deceitful characters. The professional ceilings women faced back in the day, however, were ubiquitous and awful. It's not the focus of the movie, though.

The one must for me was Rami winning. Yay. His speech was almost pitch perfect. Great message for anyone yearning to discover. I did hope for more direct reference to Farrokh Bulsara.

What gorgeous music was played for the memorium. While sad, I always feel ennobled with the wonderful pictures of the honorees. We really can be wondrous creatures. No man ever looked better and more sexy, including Cary Grant, than Burt Reynolds in that famous shot from Smokey and the Bandit which was just used. It's the imp in him that elevates it to ultimate status, imo.

Leave it to this overwhelmed Director to fully miss the physically interesting expressions of Spike's joy! Heaven forfend we get some actual spontaneity in this joint. I can't wait to learn what was censored! I've not experienced silence like that since David Letterman asked, "Uma, Oprah?"

My favorite moment, by far, was when the Trustee went to Smash to let him know things were afoot. Given the recent financial scandal, it's not all that far-fetched that folks are looking to move on. It's also a tale as old as time that there be treachery within faith communities! Did God really have to give Stanford such an excellent prospect? I wish the convenient schedules kept by Cara and Miles weren't becoming such an issue for me. At least Rakesh seemed to be out of commission. Then again, he was just hanging with them following an all-nighter after a string of such. It was cool that there was a lot of inside baseball in an ep dealing with...inside baseball! Even better, the dynamics were actually and surprisingly well explained.

AGT The Champions: All Episode Discussion

50 Shades of Shin? Totally worthy winner and also Top 3. I was a wee bit sad they didn't give it to Kseniya (even if she misspelled Shin's name on her tribute posted above:)). I believe the title would have done her the most good. And that lady merits tons of good. Love always wins. I was also sad watching Mel in all the vignettes which were recorded immediately after the performance Finale. Did she know she was on her way out? I doubt it. All the best to her. Amelie is a stunning woman. I almost don't care when I watch the Clairvoyants' act. Just show me that vision in some phenomenal gown. Overall, this was not a bad mini-season. I got my Prince back for at least a night, and some AGT royalty got to take a deserved victory lap, or three.
