    I Need a Recipe!

Maybe it was 1-2-3-4 cake? The proportions are easy to remember, which may be why your grammy didn't write it down. The recipe is usually on the box of Swans Down Cake Flour.

    Jeopardy! Season 35 (2018-2019)

I was sorry no one knew Uncle Duke. I'll always remember his taking a hallucinogen before making a speech and seeing the audience turn into sheep. I knew The Emperor Jones also, having published a paper on it. Plus cappuccino, The Potato Eaters, and FJ. No idea about most of those comic strip voices, though, and I thought the vocabulary questions were really tough. I'm rooting for a long streak for Lindsey, buzzer smashing and all.

    Jeopardy! Season 35 (2018-2019)

It was the show featuring Saul Goodman that wasn't Better Call Saul. I agree it was confusing for awhile to recognize what they were looking for in that category. I would have answered "Ty" for the Betty and Veronica question, thinking they wanted the name without "Bet." I knew Richard Pryor also and was sorry he was a TS, although I was debating whether it was him or Gene Wilder they wanted (Don't recall if both movies in the clue were Pryor/Wilder films.)

The Silver Palate Good Times Cookbook has a vegetarian (not vegan) pot pie recipe. It's reprinted here.

    Jeopardy! Season 35 (2018-2019)

I couldn't think of NY, embarrassingly, since it's my home state! The French for "beast" is "bete", and Beauty is Belle. The clue wanted the title character that wasn't the Beast. Lindsay. I didn't mind her at all, and I was grateful to her for ridding us of Shoutin' Barton.

    Jeopardy! Season 35 (2018-2019)

I knew FJ, but I thought the clue was kind of obscure since the line is not in the movie. Spoiler tag just in case: Right on about Gilbert Gottfried! I hope someone tells Barton to tone it down and we can hear him just fine without the shouting.

    Jeopardy! Season 35 (2018-2019)

I guess no one here watched Feud: Bette and Joan last spring? It had me looking forward to Sunday nights for the first time since Mad Men ended. Definitely worth seeking out.

    Jeopardy! Season 35 (2018-2019)

Well, the show was Before Their Time and I don't know if it's in reruns anywhere. "Maude" also never became shorthand for a particular type of person the way "Archie Bunker" did. If younger folks are familiar with Bea Arthur, I am guessing they know her from The Golden Girls rather than Maude. I thought about Pluto because of the "rise and fall" part of the clue, but was thrown by the "America's favorite planet" part. I never thought of Pluto as a "favorite." But don't be too unhappy about its demotion, since there are those who think it should get its full planetary status back, as discussed here. I also got Book Club, Underwood, Luther Burbank, lymph, Count of Monte Cristo, and El Greco. It took me a moment, but I did come up with Neil Simon. He was so prolific that Joan Rivers once joked she should call her own play The New Neil Simon Play. I know that watching Jeopardy is a bittersweet experience for many of us now that we know about Alex's health. Did anyone else wince when he said he was "still recovering" from the All Stars tournament?

    What is...In the Media?

I missed the show at 7 tonight and was looking forward to catching up on YouTube. Then I clicked on the above video and heard the news. It's great that he has a positive attitude, but I remember how positive Patrick Swayze and Michael Landon were also. John Hurt as well. I really hope Alex can beat the odds.
  10. Kate Winslet is in an unhappy marriage--Wonder Wheel, Revolutionary Road, Little Children.

    The Jeopardy! All-Star Games

The only TS I got was "behind closed doors." Can anyone explain why Alex said that the Wood! category "should bring back memories" and why that got a big laugh? I know why a dirty minded 12 year old boy might laugh, but I don't think that's what Alex meant.

    The Jeopardy! All-Star Games

For your listening pleasure... Spike Jones was before my time too, but I remember laughing out loud when I first heard this on the Dr. Demento show way back when. Did anyone else get FJ from the old Charles Laughton movie on the life of Rembrandt? Sad that Julia was the only one who missed it. Yes, I did not appreciate that "joke" about Leonard planning to be a student until he qualifies for the Seniors Tournament (which I wish they would revive, btw). Getting a Masters and a Ph.D. does NOT = being a perpetual student.

    The Jeopardy! All-Star Games

I don't follow Ken Jennings...what did he say? I agree about the chatter but I guess they had to fill up the time somehow. As much as they annoy me during regular games, I'd prefer slow readers of long clues.

    Discontinued Foods You Miss

From what I gather, they were the usual fruit flavors. Picture here, along with assorted other goodies. I had forgotten they had cake, fudge, candy bars, and gum as well as the better known ice cream and frozen meals.

    The Annual Academy Awards Topic

I guess he mentioned John Wayne because BM was about cowboys (although they would more accurately be called sheepherders). Cowboys =Westerns = John Wayne. That said, I wasn't crazy about BM either and I liked Crash better. I wish it had won because Academy voters honestly thought it was the better movie, not because they didn't want to see a gay-themed movie.
