Empire in the Media: Read It In Billboard

Judging by online reaction just in the last 24-48 hours every public support system and online/media community is certainly cutting him off outside of his family and perhaps close friends, and AFAIC that's exactly what he deserves.

I have to assume he thought this incident would make him a cause celebre and enhance his public profile as a social activist and media personality, and put him on par with Howard and Taraji salary-wise. Events certainly trended that way early on with him giving a triumphant concert the following week, and poor Ellen Page's impassioned speech a week or so ago. I wonder if he'll even be back to film an exit, tbh. This is an extreme and fairly unprecedented situation and the cast and crew must be beside themselves.

He was basically Lee Daniels' avatar on the show: The ideal gay soap opera hero. He'd become a minor queer icon. Did he really think he couldn't negotiate given Jamal's central role on the show?

    I'll take the risk.

And yet crap like this (let alone actual victims of assault who were slandered and dragged through the mud instead) has, many times. Scandals like this live forever in the climate we've had since at least the 1990s. I can't shrug off the damage this will do, because it's already begun. Already the alt right is trying to link this back to some nonsensical imaginary conspiracy with Kamala Harris. So we have another two years minimum of that to look forward to. That's all true. The problem is now they'll be believed a little (or a lot) less. His motives are worth absolutely nothing to me. But to each their own.

Yeah, no. Agree to disagree. I believed Jussie Smollett's story wholeheartedly. It echoed the times we live in. It broke my heart. I was a fan. Now all I do is see red when I think about it. It makes my skin crawl. Shit like this will do untold damage to millions of young and old at-risk black and LGBT people (which includes me) for generations. The right wing will dine out on this case for decades to disenfranchise and invalidate countless tragedies and hate crimes. The media, cowed by the right, will refer back to it regularly. It will become a part of our culture like so many other scandals that are used to whatabout and deflect discussion of social justice and racism and homophobia. It will never go away and bigots will always bring it back. For so many people, it will be more difficult than before. And unfortunately, unlike Jussie Smollett 99% of those people won't have the money and resources to put their lives back together again. He can presumably cop his plea, take what's left of his money and disappear. His work in this life is clearly accomplished.

He's def written and styled like Kid Spinelli now, but I'll give Bechtel this, he's learned to act a bit. I pulled up some recent clips and he summoned actual emotion over his dead dad and it wasn't a trick of the light! A couple years ago he could barely budge even when Chandra Wilson was pushing him on a guest spot on Grey's. Still, they need to SORAS him a little.

Jonathan Jackson is still doing very well for himself and is almost certainly never signing a long-term contract again. They had their once in a lifetime second shot with him and they squandered it. Jack Wagner is just a mess.

    Shucks
  10. If the choices are "Sonny gets Grandma Carly pregnant again" or "Bryan Craig returns to the show" I choose to turn the gun on myself

More proof that yes, Asa and Dorian happened. I guess he threw her over for Pamela. I didn't know the romance lasted into Rauch's tenure.

Oh good grief. Well, Kevin and Ryan's father, Victor, worked in intelligence so there might be a link to the WSB. Who are all these new chicks and this cult? I don't get it. Are they really tryna say Aiden is gay just bc he likes gender-stereotyped activities and kids make fun of him? That seems dicey.

Me any time I tune in: What the hell is this [cult] story about and who are [all these random chicks] Swap out the variables and it's the same each time. But really WTF is this about Case in point! WTF are you folks talking about?? No, I won't stop showing up every few months asking these things!
