BB in the Media: Outside the Fishbowl

Okay, but Jess and Cody have done these things, too. They both have done the cash giveaways from Paypal asking people to tag and like photos. Jess is constantly shilling something tacky, like those awful protein shakes and vitamins you know she doesn't take. I'm pretty sure she doesn't tag her sponsored posts, either. Swaggy and Bayleigh are totally money-hungry, but so are Jess and Cody and nobody says anything about them AND they just wone a million dollars and are still begging people to buy junk so they can get paid. You can't tell me the dislike for Swaggy and Bayleigh doesn't have at least a little to do with the fact that they're black.

Speaking of scams, has anybody been following Jess and Cody? Cody started a coffee "business." From what I can tell, it's literally regular gourmet supermarket coffee packaged in privately labeled packets. He didn't even create a website. He bought a Url and linked it to an Amazon page. https://www.amazon.com/Couples-Coffee-Co-Ground-Homebody/dp/B07H5TPP2B/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1550794460&sr=8-3&keywords=couples+coffee+co He has nothing to do with it. The whole thing is run by a private labeling company. Who are the idiots buying their crap?

To shut her up. At the same time she this was going on, CBS and Moonves were being investigated for sexual misconduct and harassment issues. They didn't want her talking.

She wasn't fired. She was hired for a multi-episode arc, which CBS fulfilled. They never officially hired her as a series regular. There was talk of it, and I'm sure that was included in the pitch to her about the role. The plan was to bring her back, but a plan isn't a contract.

I'm tired of the idea that women should apologize before suggesting that a situation like this might not be as it appears. I believe the adage "Trust, but verify." I don't think Dushku lied. How she perceived or processed the situation is valid. But it also speaks volumes that in close to 30 years in the industry, Weatherly has, for the most part, kept his side of the street clean and has many people that support him. The character infuses innuendo into things he says when talking to women he's involved with or attracted to. That's the character he plays. If I saw a windowless van parked somewhere, I might even joke and call it a rape van and I'm an assault survivor. Also keep in mind that the threesome comment and the van comment were said while they were filming; that wasn't Weatherly addressing Dushku. It was Bull addressing JP. Finally, remember that this all took place before the Weinstein/Metoo movement happened. Many people had no idea that comments like the one's included in this story were even considered harassment. Ugh, I guess what I'm saying is that Weatherly shouldn't be fired over this. It was stupid, but not meant to make her feel uncomfortable. The crew member, however, should be shitcanned stat. The fact that they dropped the co-lead angle all together after she left speaks to the possibility they just didn't think a co-lead worked.

Here's an example of why I'm not confident she was dismissed because of Weatherly's complaint. sHe says in the article that one example of the harassment was that Weatherly used to have his cell phone play Barracuda when she would come on set. Lawyers, especially sharp aggressive ones, are often referred to as barracudas. Look up the slang definition in Merriam Webster and they use a lawyer as an example. Her character was a cocky no-nonsense lawyer.Couldn't he have been referring to that and not her body? I don't think she's lying. I believe everything happened exactly the way she said it did and - in certain cases - Weatherly crossed a line. I also think her personality wasn't right for the show/cast/character and she was not brought back because of it and is now doing damage control

I think it's possible to agree that Weatherly's behavior constitutes harassment and he should be reprimanded/punished and also believe Dushku was fired because the character didn't gel with the rest of the cast and affected the flow of the show. It's interesting that Weatherly wrote the network representative and said they needed to talk about Dushku's sense of humor, because that's exactly what didn't work about the character. The character had no sense of humor, which doesn't work with a cast like that.

Weatherly has been around for 20+ years. I have never seen an interview with him when he wasn't making jokes, some involving innuendo. I'm with the poster above that the comments he made - and he did make them - were not attempts to have sex with Dushku or embarrass her. They were Weatherly being Weatherly - the guy he's been for 2 decades on set without one complaint from cast members - riffing on dialogue in the script (the rape van and threesome comments) and repeating a well-known Movie quote (the bend over my knee remark.) Where it took a wrong turn is when the sleazy crew member followed Weatherly's lead and made a completely inappropriate and crude comment to Dushku about wanting a threesome. That understandably made her feel violated. But instead of going to Weatherly first, she went over his head, which is just a bad move in any HR situation like this. The only reason I don't think Weatherly was retaliating when he talked to the boss about Dushku's humor is because I can distinctly remember watching those episodes and thinking she was terrible in the role. I really wish the people assuming Weatherly was getting back at her would watch those episodes. Her character - or how she was playing her - was utterly humorless.

She was offered an multi-episode deal, and if the character was well received, then they'd discuss a series regular spot. CBS fulfilled the original contract. She was never at any time offered a series regular role and then had it taken away. It was always an if not a when. She's claiming she wasn't offered a series regular role because of Weatherly, which might be true, but she's glossing over the fact that the character was not well-received by the audience.

    Bull in the Media

Thee are two issues here: Did Weatherly act inappropriately (uh, hell yes) and was she not picked up as a series regular because she complained. Just curious if anyone actually watched her episodes. I did and remember thinking that she was miscast. I like Dushku, but let's be honest, she has one speed: badass rebel. The character was supposed to be playful and flirty but still a force to be reckoned with. The latter she did well, the former not so much. The character didn't work. Forget about the lack of chemistry between her and Weatherly (which has now been explained), her performance was wooden and humorless. The character and the actress didn't work. Fillion and Stanic at the very least had chemistry. They wrote around their intense dislike for each other, which is why they were always being separated for the last two seasons. You can't write around a lack of chemistry. Weatherly won't be fired. He'll get some minor reprimand because he makes the network money. The only people being fired are the ones networks were dying to get rid of in the first place. ETA Read the comments from her episodes on this site. They're almost across the board critical of the character.

    S06.E08: Chapter 73

The actor who played Duncan was playing The Antichrist on American Horror Story in the weeks leading up to this season's release. Out of all the interviews he did, he mentioned HOC maybe once, only when asked. When he didn't bother posting anything about HOC on Instagram when the season started the way he did for every other show he'd been in, I knew it was going to suck.

    S01.E05: Miracles

Living Biblically would have stood a better chance if they got rid of the wife. Ian Gomez and David Krumholtz were perfectly cast; too. The Real O'Neals was hilarious and poignant so of course ABC gave it the axe so they could air the steaming hot turd known as Living Separately.

    S01.E05: Miracles

That's Jay R. Ferguson aka "that guy from that show." He's been in a few failed sitcoms and has had a ton of guest starring runs on shows like Mad Men. I think they intentionally cast someone who went totally against type to set up the will they/won't they arc. She doesn't, though. Even if she did, the most popular character on this show used to be a shrill loudmouth who bossed everyone around, so I don't get why that would be an issue. In fact, this whole show revolves around strident, outspoken, neurotic women. There isn't one easy going female character in the series I honestly believe she's being seen as "too much" because she's black.

    S08.E10: Apocalypse Then

He's dripping wet and his hair looks wet, like he dunked under water. I honestly think there was more to the time travel aspect than we saw. We got more time with Mallory and Anastasia than Mallory and Michael. I wouldn't be surprised if a ton of stuff across the whole season was cut for time.
