    QVC

Yeah I wasn't talking about your comment, I was talking about the tanner presentations in general. The copy for the product talks about getting a "healthy glow."

    QVC

I dislike the entire concept of tanning. I'm pale AF and wear SPF 50 year-round. In these presentations they're always like "you have to get some color and look alive and get a healthy glow!" and it's like...bitch I'm not dead just because I'm pale. What exactly about having my natural skin color is more "unhealthy" than putting chemicals all over my body?

Also still don't understand why QVC only does the Irish stuff twice a year or doesn't do more international stuff. Every time they have it I always consider buying an Aran sweater...maybe if I can get one secondhand for cheaper LOL.

    Purse & Handbag Chat

On a more cheerful note here is my latest bag. After a few annoying months of using a cotton reusable shopping bag as my "purse" and trying to find a decent secondhand bag to no avail, I got this bag at Target last week. I got it because it is made of a thick canvas-like material, similar to the Jansport bag material, so hopefully it will last for a while, but it also isn't really that rough so it shouldn't pill my clothes. I got an LL Bean Boat & Tote to use as my purse once and it pilled a bunch of my clothes which really sucked. What do you guys carry in your bag? Here is what I generally have in my bag: *front pocket: Phone and wallet with keyring (wallet is pictured which is from an Etsy store called Lindock). The front pocket has an open shallow pocket so I can put my wallet upright in there and access my wallet contents without actually having to take it out of the bag. *back pocket: *Hydro Flask 16oz stainless steel coffee mug -- I use this every day instead of single-use bottles or mugs and I also use it every day at home *ChicoBag collapsible reusable shopping bag -- I also use this all the time instead of single-use shopping bags and it can also be used to carry additional items that won't fit in the bag *reusable cloth pad(s) in holder *Garden of Life or NuGo plant-based protein bar as an emergency snack *Ray-Ban prescription sunglasses in case *"walking pharmacy" bag (pictured below, also from Lindock) with: rosewood mini comb from Dixie Cowboy Etsy store, whatever tinted lip balm I'm wearing, cotton handkerchief, two bandages, Dental Lace refillable and compostable floss, metal pill bottle with Velamints (used as cough drops because I hate actual cough drops) and Spry natural base xylitol gum, another metal pill bottle with ibuprofen and digestive medicine.

LIP products: lipsticks, lipkits, glosses, balms all that jazz

Burt's Bees update: even though I like the formula and color range of their tinted lip balms, I won't be repurchasing them anymore. The reason is that their packaging sucks. Two of them that I've had broke (one of which had hardly even been used) so that they could not be rolled up or down which caused product to be wasted. It's kind of surprising for such a large company. I will use the ones I have and then get something else. I also repurchased the Pacifica tinted lip balm in Coconut Nectar, which I had a few years ago, and I really like it and have been wearing it very frequently this week. It's kind of a frosty/metallic 90s pinkish-brown which doesn't sound like it would work but it actually does. The packaging also seems to be a lot better than the Burt's Bees. Plus it has a nice coconut scent.
  6. Even Taylor doesn't look like Taylor. What you're seeing is her with heavy professionally applied makeup, flattering lighting, filters, the best dermatology money can buy, plastic surgery/Botox, etc. If she had never gotten famous she would still be good looking but she wouldn't look perfect. Also many people suspect she had plastic surgery around her eyes and also a nose job among other things, so probably she even isn't 100% satisfied with her appearance. And FWIW a lot of guys don't find her attractive.

Education is a basic necessity. Staying in a fancy hotel isn't. The cost of social ills caused by lack of education is most likely much higher than it would be if education was more equal. As for socioeconomic mobility, studies do not support your assertion. I don't think there's much difference morally between those legal ways of getting advantages either (moral and legal are not always the same thing). FWIW today I went out to dinner with one of my friends from high school and she had the same opinion on it as I do and she said she thinks legacies are way worse (which actually now that I think about it, is weird because she was a legacy at her college LOL). My point exactly. They can't even get into the same echelon as the richer kids in terms of advantage.

I think it's total BS and clearly a rigged system that school quality is directly linked to property values, meaning that richer people automatically get a huge advantage and it is nearly impossible for poorer people to get ahead even if they are intelligent and hardworking. All public schools should get equal funding. That would reduce so many social problems. I actually have zero problem with what your friend did morally and I don't think it's the same at all as a rich person who already has every advantage tipping the scales even more in their favor. There's nothing ok about it. But the fact is everyone of means does rig the system in their favor to give their kids unfair and unwarranted advantages, whether they do that in a legal or illegal way. Yeah but they do use charitable donations to increase the chance of their kid getting admitted, and getting special opportunities after they are admitted, which isn't much better.

My cat that I grew up with was euthanized today. She was such a sweet cat and loving towards everyone. She was almost 15 so that's pretty long for a cat. We also had a second cat who was her littermate and we got them both as kittens, but she died a few years ago. They both died of the same thing -- they had some kind of autoimmune disease that appeared later in life and eventually went into kidney failure. I don't talk to my mom anymore so I hadn't seen the cat in about 3 1/2 years either so I didn't get to say goodbye or anything. Anyway this is one reason why I will never own a pet again (except my MIL's conure who will probably live forever but it's not my choice to have her). It's all well and good when you're having fun times with them, but then they die.

To be fair the vast majority of parents of kids who get into the Ivy League have this attitude. I hated my school and wanted to transfer to a state or local school (which are also really good schools BTW and also would have been cheaper) and my mom told me if I did, she would kick me out on the street with no money and I would be homeless. At my high school going to a community college or something like that was like a fate worse than death (actually one of my friends from high school ended up going to community college and she turned out fine!) It's the overall culture that goes with these kinds of places. No wonder so many suicides happened at my school.

I wonder which people in power they pissed off. Usually rich people get away with this kind of stuff entirely and to make it a public spectacle like this and with such a high bail...someone must have been pissed that their kid didn't get into some school.

Unpopular opinion: I don't think this is any different morally from what all rich people do to get their kids into fancy schools. This is just the natural conclusion of things that are well accepted when trying to get into fancy schools but are only accessible to a small part of the population, like private tutors, pulling strings to get fancy internships, esoteric extracurriculars that only rich people have the means to do, donating to the school to increase the chance of getting in or knowing an alumni and having them put in a good word for your kid, etc. I grew up lower middle class and got into a really good public high school (you had to get in by exam and I found out the night before the exam that some of my richer classmates had been getting private tutoring...my family had no idea that private tutoring even existed for this kind of thing) and went to an Ivy League college. I had a lot of rich and super-rich classmates and they had access to a whole world of advantages that us plebeians simply do not have. They also have ways of hiding their money to avoid paying for college. I know so many people who were way richer than my family and got financial aid, and my family got nothing because of the small inheritance we got from my grandpa after a lifetime of living frugally. Universities can't be sold out because they have no ethical standards to begin with.

    What's For Dinner?

Didn't get to eat until midnight.... *A sandwich of Lightlife vegan "turkey" slices, Kerrygold Dubliner cheese, Grey Poupon country dijon mustard, and Cholula hot sauce, on sprouted whole grain bread...this was actually really good. *Salad of massaged kale, tomato, cucumber, half an avocado (other half is for breakfast tomorrow), and paprika for seasoning *A pear *Garden of Life chocolate vegan protein bar
