    S37.E13: Finale

I'm a little late to the party here with an unpopular opinion. I actually thought Mike played a really good game. I can't think of anyone who was any sort of celebrity going into the game that went as far as Mike did. And, in order for him to do that he managed to play a solid social game where his name almost never came up as someone to vote out. Don't get me wrong, Christian was and still is one of my favorite all time players but I don't get all the Mike hate or that at Christian because he appreciated it. It was quite clear he was working the vote every tribal so that his biggest threats were voted out. Even after he kept Nick in the dark at least twice on a blindside Nick didn't target him. So what if he was catty when Alison mentioned him in tribal? What player doesn't get defensive that deep in the game when someone targets them? He'd got that far and nobody ever targeted him. Anyway, I still think his game play was amazing, since he already was a known celebrity. Pollard, Jimmy Johnson, Colepepper, and all the others were voted out earlier than he was. That took work and good play. I was a big Davie fan too but I don't see anyone giving him a hard time when he said whoever orchestrated his blindside would get his vote. He voted for Nick who was completely in the dark that vote and the whole thing was set up by Mike. Who took credit for it. Parting shot: I don't ever want to see Angelina cast on another season.

    Last Man Standing

I don't know. My wife and I let my brother in law live with us rent free for a year to save money for his own place. I told him it was time to find a place ASAP when he brought home a 55" 4k TV for his bedroom. It may not be Mike and Vanessa's money but it is pretty naive to plan an expensive European vacation given the reason Mike is letting them live there.

    Last Man Standing

It took me a minute to realize this episode that new Mandy wasn't some random woman hitting on Kyle.

    Last Man Standing

I said I was going to give it another chance because I thought they were going to tone down the politics, but with this new info I don't think I will. I'm totally fine with Tim's politics in the show. Hillary Clinton was just on Murphy Brown. Nobody complained about that.

    Castaways

That is fat shaming. I don't care how round he is, even if he hadn't lost weight he appears to be a great role model.

I didn't find him entitled either. He obviously wasn't someone who'd ever spent a night in a tent but I don't see what Sawyer and Richard did with all their efforts other than getting a few stingrays that was much more productive than what Matt did. Not a fan of this fat shaming of Robbie here. He's a great role model and if you take the time to look at his Instagram it's amazing the transformation he's gone through. He seems like a great man.

    Castaways

There were times when I was watching this series I swore the same people that produce NBCs Olympics content were involved with this. 50% of the show was backstories and reenactments. I was really disappointed with the last episode. The entire trip by Sawyer and Richard to Terry's camp seemed so contrived by the producers. The talk of "we can't let someone be alone" after they did all they could to push Matt away also fell flat. IMO they knew she was gone because the producers told them to go over there. Pushing the narrative that everyone should be surviving together didn't didn't sell well with me. I'm sure there are a lot of people, that could thrive and maybe even find it peaceful. Like Terry. This show could have been really good. It's too bad the ratings were so low that I'm doubtful they'll get a second season. I am really happy for Robbie. The photo in that link above is amazing.

    Yellowstone

I'm a pretty big fan of this show but this IMHO was the worst episode of the season. They are really going to abduct and hang, in broad daylight, driving a Yellowstone Ranch crew cab one of the most visible investors in town? The truck literally said "Yellowstone Ranch" on the door. I liked most of this season but not much of this last episode made any sense to me. Kaysee is now a stone cold serial killer? This reporter is now all buddy, buddy with Jaime? I don't buy any of it.

    S05.E10: Cold War

I'm happy for Sam. I know people like him who weren't cut out for college or for whatever reason just found something they had a passion for and pursued it. I don't see how his motivation for being there was any different than Britt's or some of the other contestants. I would have been happy with any one of these three winning. But, I really liked Sam's attitude and positivity. His wife showing up was one of my favorite moments of the series. I do agree though. New people now and no couples. I did like the new location but I hope in the future they have some access to game.

Cowboy hats and boots cost a lot. If you owned a family farm or ranch that had been in the same family for 132 years you'd probably understand John Dutton and how he acts a little better. All that said, this was one of my favorite episodes of the season. The part about the fossil hunters ransacking the house fell a little flat for me though. I've spent a lot of time on the Crow Indian Reservation in Montana and I don't believe a bunch of people not from the rez could show up without a lot of local interest. Hoping for a great part II.

    S05.E09: Starvation's Shadow

I've tried to ignore some of the personality quirks of Sam and Larry. They can both be a little off putting, but that doesn't mean they don't know what they're doing. Britt seems to be the most camera friendly of the 3 remaining people, but had Larry lost 3 hooks doing what Britt did I think people would be harder on him. Similar to what you note about how viewers might be more sympathetic to someone like Alan. IMO Sam is doing projects like the cup and spoons to keep his mind occupied. There has to be a lot of down time and you can only sit around for so long doing nothing.

    S05.E09: Starvation's Shadow

I still have a wooden spoon someone I guided on a canoe trip made for me 20+ years ago. Sam isn't some guy stumbling through this. He has real skills and I'd be fine if he won.

    S05.E09: Starvation's Shadow

I have liked Larry from the beginning, although I would be happy with any of these 3 winning. Larry is an interesting guy and has some personality quirks that seem to turn people off. Admittedly, I personally can't stand him saying "man" after every other sentence, but as I've said before he's there and I'm not. He's alone and IMO can do whatever he needs too if it gets him through the day. I started to wonder, since we're around 40 days into this and only three of these "survival experts" remain what guys like Jim Bridger or any of the early American/Canadian frontiersmen would think of this effort. Are even these guys not made of the same salt their predecessors were?

    Yellowstone

Although I really like this show, it was ridiculous that Rip found two lost hikers on the property (which is the size of Rhode Island apparently) and at the same time found the grizzly bear. Even though he set out to shoot the bear in the first place, at least he will be off the hook for killing it since it was in self defense at that time. We live in an area with a large percentage of Native Americans as well, my wife working at a hospital, in Bozeman it would be highly unlikely that it was the medical folks first rodeo with native rituals in a hospital room. I have no doubt they've seen it all before. That reaction seemed over the top. Overall though I liked the episode and still enjoy the series. I almost feel sorry for John, none of his kids seem interested in taking over the ranch when he dies. It's obviously one of the largest in Montana. Maybe he'll adopt Rip and make him an honorary Dutton.

    S05.E07: Desperate Measures

Larry's yelling doesn't bother me. He's there and I'm not. Whatever helps him get through the day is fine my me. I wouldn't want to go camping with him though. He'd break my camp stove if the food was overcooked.

I've had some time to think about this episode. I used to work logging crews and I have never seen bars like the one Beth was in. I never came out of the log woods to a place like that. They were dirty, rough and cheap. Are there really places that nice where real cowboys go? I doubt it.
  17. Subrookie

    Yellowstone

I agree with others that have issue with Beth and some of the other rediculous story arcs about her, but name one show like this on TV now. This is a genre that if you like it there really isn't a lot of shows like Yellowstone. I'll put up with some of the rediculousness because all the shows I have liked like this don't last long, like Deadwood. This show is like a modern day Bonanza. Enjoy it for what it is because westerns don't come along often.

    S05.E03: The Serpent

FWIW, there are many places that only allow you to fish with barbless hooks. Typically, you just bend the barb down with a multi-tool or pliers. The fishing regulations in the part of Manitoba I worked in wouldn't allow them. In general I don't disagree with your observation that he should probably have brought fishing gear, but it's not a deal breaker to make your own hooks even if they don't have a barb. Much less efficient than bringing gear though. I too wish they hadn't teased the medical emergency with Nicole. She is a very likable person and obviously is an extremely competent survivalist, but I'm left feeling like it was a serious mistake to cast her this season. TPTB don't really show us how close the filming sites are to a hospital but it can't be easy to evacuate someone. Accidents happen but she was coming in with a pre-existing condition and that seems risky. It was riveting though and I'm glad she took the time to explain and film what she was going through. If anything, I learned quite a bit about MS last night. Loving the cabin. Interesting how some people build a very simple tarp shelter that doesn't seem like it would provide any insulation when the snow comes. The cabin is a gamble since he's not gathering food and burning a lot of calories but could be the difference between staying 50 days and staying 90 days once the weather changes.

    S05.E02 The Haunting

I'm assuming you mean Brad. But, years ago there was a show on PBS called Pioneer House or something like that. People were sent out not that unlike this show to live like people did 200 years ago. At the end they were judged on how they prepared and whether the experts thought they would survive. The takeaway for me at least from that show was that surviving a winter alone or even in a small group setting means spending hours upon hours cutting firewood, every day. This might have been the smartest thing he did out there. You can have all the food in the world and still freeze to death.

    S05.E02 The Haunting

IIRC, he threw a chunk of wood at one. Which, made me laugh out loud at the time. Agree with you all about Brad. He had a loser mentality from the start and apparently no idea what greens were edible. I thought it was curious someone was boiling their water. I get the concern about girardia but that appears to be a pretty pristine watershed. I doubt I would have. In that remote a location I have typically never even carried a canteen. I'd keep a cup on a string tied to my belt loop and dip it in the water when I was thirsty.

    S05.E01 Redemption

I'm going to go against the grain here. I was a canoe guide in Northern Manitoba back in my younger years. I did, and do, really like Carleigh. But, I've personally extracted 3 barbed hooks before in really remote locations. 1 of them very similar to her injury. I think it's foolish to not have a multi tool as one of your survival items. All three times I was able to use my multi-tool to snip the eye and pull the hook out. There is no limit to how useful that tool is.

    Lost In Space (2018)

I'm still not sure what Not Dr. Smith's end game plan was. She was stuck on a planet about to burn up and if she went back to the Resolute they'd send her out an airlock for killing the guard. Only toward the end did she have any plan to use the robot. I remember watching this episode and seeing how many lose ends there were with less than 10 minutes left. The ending tied most of those up but it all seemed to convenient.

    Lost In Space (2018)

Victor said the tank was pressurized, so it may not have mattered much if they had tipped it all the way over. Although the fuel came out of the tank like it was from a garden hose, if it was pressurized it would be like putting a hole in a propane tank. To be fair to the red haired guy they wouldn't have any fuel at all if he hadn't fixed the rover thing in the geyser field.

S36.E14: It is Game Time Kids

I'm not normally in the tin foil hat camp but something about the FTC doesn't seem legit. If the producers were willing to just count the votes on the island rather than wait for the LA show why would they not follow through when it was a tie? They had to have known, in advance, it was going to be a tie and planned it to go back to the reunion show. I really thought it was a different twist we haven't seen since probably S1, but it got ruined for me because they didn't follow it through and announce the winner there. YMMV, but there were too many things about this season that made it one of my least favorite. Idols made it nearly impossible to vote out 2 of the 3 final contestants with 6-8 people left making it too predictable.
