S04.E15: I Need to Find My Frenemy

As the kids used to say, This. I'm really hoping the show can pull a rabbit out of its hat, but it's not looking good for all the reasons everyone's stating.

Yes, but without testosterone, do you want to?

These two sources have questionable credibility, to say the least. Sorry to go there, but didn't both Wade and James talk about Jackson ejaculating?

If you haven't watched the Oprah interview, I strongly recommend it. I realized after watching these two victims sit alone for a four-hour documentary, I was hungering for them to be around other people, to be supported and have their experience validated. Ain't no validator like Oprah. I found that hour to be, personally, more cathartic than the documentary, for so many reasons (many personal). One I can share is that Oprah quite rightly shifts focus back to ALL victims, frames the discussion as a cultural crisis that can happen anywhere instead of just being a celebrity tabloid story, and enlarges our understanding of what exactly the experience is like for the victim (e.g., how you can love your rapist/abuser, the paradox of the abuser being a "good" person doing "good" things and also raping children, et al.). IMHO, over her career Oprah has endorsed far too much woo (remember "The Secret"?), but she is a force for good in some of the places we most need it--and are most afraid to go.

The OBVIOUS tell (retrospectively of course) was the absence of any girls in Michael's close circle of special children. Girls are, I hear, half of the child population. WEIRD THAT NONE WERE PRESENT AMONG MICHAEL'S CHOSEN CHILDREN, NO?

To blame, in order of importance: Michael Jackson Michael Jackson Michael Jackson Michael Jackson Michael Jackson Michael Jackson Michael Jackson Michael Jackson... 3,262. The parents present Never: The victims

FWIW, that moment read as total BS to me. Too self-absolving and self-aggrandizing--and no one's around to contradict you! How convenient... But it's also unintentionally revealing as it shows what she (unconsciously?) feels most guilty about: That she pimped out her child for her own gain and precipitated her depressed husband's suicide. She feels so guilty she makes up this completely incredible absolution story. Fascinating, if disgusting.

    Isn't the term defrocked?

IANAL but would be really surprised to find out NDAs protect your committing crimes.

Everyone's rightfully covering the big-ticket outrages and questions. So I hope this less important question doesn't rankle: Any guesses what the market value of the stuff Wade Robson is shown burning in still photos at the end of part 2? I saw a glitter glove and the red jacket. Millions, right? Really shuts up those who claim Wade is "in it for the money."

Yeah, I shouldn't say "lie" without being more precise; that's wrong. I don't think Nic is lying that other scenes were scripted, shot, and then discarded. I think he's misleading us when he says they weren't shown was for "time" reasons. That doesn't add up, for reasons I've already posted. I do think it's aesthetic ass-covering, a la Lindelof, and I find it as annoying then (with Lost) as now. Is Pizzolatto's Instagram now TD canon? If not, why not? If so, why? And here we are, discussing it... ETA: Not pinning down main character Amelia's cause of death--in a mystery show that trumpeted, via the documentarian, "Isn't is concerning how many people have died connected to this case?" Well, that's just storytelling malpractice...unless you Instagram it out, then it's all good. I need a good stiff drink. And I don't drink.

More rankled that we are now forced to discuss Nic's Unbroadcast Endings. This is what I meant when I question 1) Whether he's telling the truth, and 2) Why he even discussed this unbroadcast ending material <24 hours after the finale is broadcast.

Thank you for posting this. Such key story info "cut for time"!? Ugh, this rankles: It's HBO. You're Nic Effing Pizzolato. You're helming a premium network's premiere prestige adult drama limited series. Ergo, THEY WILL GIVE YOU ANOTHER 30-40 G*DDAMN MINUTES. So, yeah, I think Nic is full of shit and backfilling like mad. Also, even if it's true (it's not), what possible reason would you say this less 24 hours after the finale airs?

    S03.E05: If You Have Ghosts

Ok, don't want to derail the thread too much, but is posthumous conviction achieved via a trial? Or some other administrative way?

    S03.E05: If You Have Ghosts

Really enjoyed this episode. Ok, so things are moving right along: Woodard was indeed the man wrongly convicted (actually convicted in court? posthumously?) of killing the kids. Julie is alive, thinks Tom is not her Dad, was taken by someone, is still being kept by that someone (?) "Getting the gang back together to solve crimes" now happening in TWO timelines; looking forward to TD Season 4 when it's 2 heads in formaldehyde in 2083 closing cold cases... Will be a tad disappointed if "Children shuld laugh" turns out to be a Huge Clue. I mean, Lucy DID see the ransom note, right? And used the phrase with Amelia AFTER she saw it, right? Chronology and linguistic forensics (the phrase is not that specific) workin' against you, Wayne, IMHO. Also, detective receptionist: Maybe don't let crime victims wander around the premises where they might see crime photos of missing/dead/murdered loved ones kthxbai... Everyone rightly praising Ali, but McNairy is the real deal here, too. Wow.
