I know I'm not the only one with "Vatican Rag" in their head when they hear "genuflect" (Bow your head with great respect and genuflect, genuflect, genuflect). A thorough knowledge of the Tom Lehrer song book is a good thing to have for Jeopardy.

Whenever I think the answer is DuPont, it's Goodyear. So I said Goodyear.

@Moose135, we must be about the same age. My public high school in late-'70s WNY ran a drivers' ed course that my mother made me take because it lowered the insurance premium. Teens today don't have to learn how to parallel park without power steering. Lucky bastards.

That was no goblet, that was a chalice from the palace with the brew that is true.
  6. With The Wizard of Oz, It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out the joke of "I think he's saying 'oil can.'" "Oil can what?"

The cats' names were the giveaway. Even having never seen Cats, due to my intense aversion to Andrew Lloyd Webber, and never having read Old Possum's whatever, the musical has been around so long and the commercials for touring productions so prevalent, that there was no way I could not know. I just assumed Eliot had cats because why else write the poem?

    Pet(s): Photos & Discussion

So sweet! Girl cat had her way overdue check up Thursday and was declared UTI-free. Woo! Poor baby couldn't quite hold it until we got to the office so they got the sample from the carrier. Then she got a spa day as they washed her off. Now she has a clean and fluffy butt. In bird news, there are now 2 hawks visiting my yard and dining on pigeons. And yet the pigeons come. Feathers everywhere. Pantry moths have invaded the house. It isn't too bad, just a couple a day and has been that way for a long time (they're annoying but not dangerous). I've put up a couple of traps, vacuumed and cleaned around the seed as much as I could, and just finished hauling everything out of the food cupboard to scour it. Most of my food is already in airtight containers because of ant problems in past years. In conclusion, fuck Wagner and their sunflower seeds.

    In Memoriam: Celebrity Deaths

It's the only version worth watching. When it first came out, I'd never seen Finney in anything else. I couldn't believe it when I saw him on a talk show.
  12. This is local but I really need to express my loathing for one of the local weather guys. I hate his fucking voice. I hate the fucking way he talks. I can't listen to the weather when he's doing it. I want him to go away. NOW.

When I hear Buffalo Bill Cody, I think "Wild West Show", not Pony Express. And then have songs from Annie Get Your Gun stuck in my head all day. Thanks, Trebek. Come to think of it, I always miss Pony Express answers and I really shouldn't because it comes up on J all the damn time.
  14. I laughed at him being "accused of being a UK citizen."
