The Duggalos: Jinger and the Holy Goalie

The shirtdress is very fashion forward, but what’s up with the heavy black shoes? Add some tan support hose and she could be Michelle from the knees down. Or the Wicked Witch of the West, not that there’s really any difference between the two. Felicity is really a beautiful baby. It looks like she’s a happy one too! I don’t think Jeremy is dumb. He’s obviously not Einstein, but he seemingly did well enough in his undergraduate program to get admitted to the MBA program at Syracuse.

I bet Becky in the third row never has to double cook her chicken.

    S14.E15: Truth or Dare

Well that was weird. I’m behind on this show since I haven’t seen an episode since Reid was in jail, and I only saw part of that season. But I did watch the last episode because I read about the Reid/JJ thing. What a bizarre story arc. Reid and JJ have had a really nice brother/sister type relationship for years and we’re supposed to think that JJ, seemingly happily married with two kids, has been carrying a torch for Reid for years and he didn’t notice? Isn’t he a profiler? And Reid had the weirdest reaction. He didn’t look shocked or surprised or even happy. He looked kind of... sad? Pitying? And then during their conversation at the bar he came across as challenging or even kind of angry. MGG is usually a better actor than AJ but her awkward responses seemed way more natural here. I’m not sure where this is supposed to be going.

I feel defrauded by looking at her in that pose. I need Joy to come visit so she can scream “Nike” in my ear.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

Meredith’s dress here is hideous. I bet it’s from some “Christian” MLM company, kind of like LuLaRoe for toddlers.

I’m with you on most of this, but I’m not sure I understand your argument that assignment of sex (as opposed to gender) at birth can be “very questionable.” It’s usually pretty easy to tell the difference between a biologically male infant and a biologically female infant. In very rare cases the appearance of the genitals can be equivocal, but that’s really the exception rather than the rule.

Ha, that’s what they think. I just sat through four tea parties, five readings of “Pinkalicious,” two improv ballet routines, and an epic temper tantrum caused by my decision that my daughter was not allowed to wear her Resurrection Sunday dress to bed. #girlmom
  8. Damn. Girlfriend looks like she should be working the Wednesday afternoon shift on the pole at a third-string strip club.

Uh oh, you should also have gotten a gram of zith. Did you have a test of cure? 😉

    S09.E03: Sleepless in Laredo

The newer tests are more sensitive, so a lot of brands no longer advise using only first void urine. I found out about Mini Mistake at 10:30 at night after several days of thinking “wow, my period’s really late this month, and I feel so queasy every morning — must be stress!” And i’m a reproductive health nurse! 😂 My husband was finally like “umm, has it occurred to you that maybe you’re pregnant?” It seemed so obvious in retrospect.

Josiah and Lauren: He Has To Marry Somebody

This seems like a heartfelt and appropriate statement. I feel bad for them. Miscarrying is tough enough when it’s a private matter, I can’t imagine feeling like I had to explain it to thousands of people. I actually wish people in general would stop asking women if they are pregnant or trying to be pregnant. It’s none of anybody’s business and those kinds of casual questions are really hard on people who have experienced loss of a pregnancy or infertility. One of the people I work with recently asked a new employee when she was going to have kids; she mumbled something and walked away. The new employees told me later that she and her husband have been trying for 4 years and have recently been told that they’ll never be able to conceive. I know the coworker who asked the question didn’t mean it badly, but it was an unnecessary and hurtful question. I feel like if people want you to know they’re pregnant they will tell you. Asking is just not a good idea.

A lot of modern churches have a come-as-you-are dress code. I think it’s getting kind of unusual to get dressed up for church.

The fact that everyone went to Laredo instead of convening in Arkansas makes me think the Duggars are just in town for the grand opening of Jeremy’s new church. It’s possible that JD and Abbie also announced a pregnancy, but I doubt that was the main reason for the gathering.
  15. Nurie’s only the favorite because Jill’s desperate to get her married off, though. I’m not sure how she thinks talking about Nurie going on dates with her brother and him sending her jewelry is going to be helpful in that endeavor, because I would think even fundies would find that pretty freaking weird. Unless maybe Jill is giving up on Nurie and intending to turn her into a “stay at home daughter?” If Janessa turns out to have any delays or disabilities, Jill’s not going to be able to cope without help from another adult. If this is the case I expect to start seeing a lot of posts praising the domestic talents of the next-oldest daughter.
