S16.E15: Finale

And actually, being conventionally "pretty' can be a hurdle to overcome, since people don't take your talent seriously and think that you just get by on your looks. I'm so glad that she's a bright, attractive, smart, hard-working person who's not afraid to show on the outside that you can be serious and talented without looking grave and unkempt.

I think the winning look won because it stuck to the inspiration photo more than the look produced by Renee. Renee’s design was great, but looked more Fall than the inspiration pic. You could easily see the nautical influence in Tessa’s design.

I’ve been watching the “What Not to Wear” reruns on one of the family channels and can just imagine what Cli’in and Stacy would say!

I think this season especially points to TPTB wanting Top Chef to be more like The Great British Baking Show. No villains, supportive contestants, mostly cute, happy people.

S16.E12: Kentucky Farewell

I like Sara. She has a great palate (blind tasting challenge) and exudes confidence. I’m not in the restaurant industry, but I imagine you have to be almost cocky to survive in that world. And I can’t say she hasn’t backed up that cockiness with some well-received dishes.

The Dresser is so great. Hoping TCM will do a tribute day and include this one. I will have to clear out my DVR because Finney was one of the best actors I’ve ever seen.

S02.E05: Midnight at The Concord

I hope I never forget the (I guess) drone shots of Benjamin and Midge driving back to NYC in that convertible. Amazing!
8. Just finished season 2. On the issue of Midge going back to Joel—they aren’t actually divorced, yet, right? How was she going to marry the doctor without being free to do so? It seems that before Abe could give his consent, that would be the main issue. In my mind, Midge going back to Joel makes sense in this context. She realizes that her life is about to spin out of control, and he’s an anchor, of sorts. I really enjoyed this season and hope season 3 isn’t far behind. Having been “on stage”, there is a high you get from it that is like no other. I can see Midge forgetting all her other obligations to get that high. It happens all the time. But I just wish they had cut the kids out of the story line completely. The way they are relegated to being furniture completely snaps me out of the world they are building.
9. Of all the things I would change about this series, number one would be to ditch the kids. They aren’t really needed. It’s too late now, however.

S05.E12: Murder Most Foul

This show has devolved into a soap opera. Seriously. And not enough beautiful scenery or costuming to redeem all that manufactured drama.

S16.E01: The Fastest 2 Minutes in Cooking

Louisville has been on my travel wish list for a while now. “Best Bars in America” on the Esquire channel did an episode in season 2 in Louisville and it made the culinary scene look sophisticated and fantastic. I dig under-the-radar cities, especially ones with cocktails in the mix. When I saw TC was filming there I was pumped. I’m sure they will showcase local restaurants and chefs that I can use for future planning.

S18.E06: Hot Potato

I wish I could like this comment a billion times. I’ve often wondered why I stick with this show, but you hit the nail on the head. I will say that I find Gordon a bit more “toned down” this season, more realistic reactions. I like the change.

TCM: The Greatest Movie Channel

Gilda was on again last night. I will never not watch that film when it’s on schedule—in fact, will probably watch on the TCM app every day until 10/17, when it gets taken off. The dialog just crackles, and the fever-dream visuals and plotting, not to mention the costume and set design hit that film noir sweet spot for me. I would love for some risk-taking (lololol) production company to do a prequel so we could see the first love affair between Johnny and Gilda.

S01.E08: Thank You and Good Night

So, do we ever find out whether Abe actually passed the background check for Bell Labs after the recruiter found out about Midge's arrests? Did it ever come up again? That's odd to me. And it's odd to me that Abe never mentions it to Midge. Reminds me of how frustrated I would get with GG doing the same thing.

Nope, it wasn’t a sweet roll consistency. Definitely had chew. But not as tough as most traditional bagels.
