S06.E01: Good as Gold 2017.05.25

Fredrik and Ryan are joined by Steve Gold, a former fashion model who has become a successful agent, specializing in luxury properties; Ryan hopes to sell 50 houses in three months; a newly calm Fredrik meets a Tribeca seller who won't negotiate.

Geez what freaking annoying sellers.  It seems to be getting worse every single year.  I cannot stand those arrogant dicks poor Steve is working with.  Just walk out..my goodness.. how can they deal with people like that?

Poor Fredrik...at least he got the buyer up or he was in the middle of his boss and his pain in the ass client.

Steve looks like he's always angry.  I can't decide if he's good looking or not..lol

Welcome back stressful show.

Steve Gold is attractive. Hated his clients. Always love Fredrik. Don't love Ryan's beard. I like him as long as we don't have to see Emilia.

I love the show, but the storyline of each buyer dictating a higher asking price than what is warranted is getting old.  Are these sellers truly this way, or just playing it up for the show?  I want some authenticity with this show, not some goobers just in it for their 15 minutes of fame.

I felt kind of bad for Ryan.  He's newly married, and Emelia lets her sister move in with them.  I don't think that's a good move for 2 people just starting their married life.  YMMV.

The new guy is definitely not terrible to look at.  Big D has always been my Bravo eye candy but he's got some competition.

Frederik posts tons of pics of his estate on Instagram and between that and the amazing trips they go on I am incredibly jealous.  But i love how he just loves his life.

Ryans beard cracks me up.  He's incredibly patient as no way could my husband take living with my sister(s).

I know this is superficial, but I hate Frederik's face.  His husband's face though...wowza, he's gorgeous.  Ryan's face also annoys.  He's not nearly as good looking as he thinks he is.  That goes for new guy too, although I love his rescue pup.

This is the only reality show that I watch with real interest because I'm an interior designer in NYC.  Ryan had a listing on a street I'm always on and it was fun to see,  However - I ain't gonna last this season if Mr. Gold doesn't keep his shirt on.  All that hair, well, it ain't for me.  Ryan's grown up a lot since the show started.

Steve is hot.

Is there really that much million dollar real estate in New York? That seems insane.

I can't either as in some scenes he was drool worthy and in others he looked just plain sloppy and dirty to me.

I'm shocked that somebody paid that much money for an apartment that has a shared balcony right outside their sliding glass doors.

I'm happy to see the guys all getting along.  Contrary to what TPTB at Bravo think, many of us don't want fighting amongst the cast or a lot of drama in our reality shows.  For this show in particular, keep the drama on the clients and let me enjoy the guys behaving as grownups to each other.  It makes for a better viewing experience for me.  YMMV.  A little competition is healthy, but I don't want to see them act like dicks to each other.

That big Georgia-style house was awesome.  Structurally though, it looks pretty rough.  Cracks down the wall? That's a big fat red flag.  I'd be curious to see what an inspector ended up saying about the house.  It's concerning that the seller thought that they could just spackle and paint the place, and pass it off as okay.  Any buyer with any sense would have this house checked over with a fine tooth comb before making an offer on it.   I can only imagine the electrical, plumbing, and structural issues this house probably has.   I would love to see it when it's redone.

would love to see some more back story on the Brooklyn mansion if anyone is inclined to sleuth. $3 million frankly seems low even for a ruin -- looked like a huge lot.

THANK YOU!  I suppose that the producers think that this formula of the sellers insisting on unreasonable listing prices and then the agent going along with it and then it works out is somehow AMUSING.  I find it absolutely infuriating and I wish they would drop it.  I believe that it's staged for the most part.  And if these realtors are so darned successful, then why can't they afford to walk out on these unreasonable people and not waste their time? I suppose they feel they can catch an acorn or two out of it.  Please.  I may let this show go, if it continues.  And I had high hopes for Steve joining the show.

I was surprised at Steve.  His style reminds me of Madison from Million Dollar LIsting LA.  At times, he is attractive and other times, he isn't.  Odd.  He may have a great body, but, that is hidden when he slouches so much.  He appears weak to me, like he needs some vitamins or iron pills.  I'd like to see him with clients who aren't annoying him  to death.

I didn't know that Fredrik had a boss.  LOVE that he's so happy in his new home.  That weekend get-a-way idea appeals to me. I might try that myself on a more modest scale.  That was a lovely little church.  I'm so happy, that he's happy.

Ryan cracks me up.  I like his style.  I'd ride around in a car for 6 hours viewing houses too, for that kind of money.

I love how these guys go in to listing appointments but never bring any paperwork to sign. Just a handshake and it's a done deal. All for TV I guess.

I could see how new guy was a successful model. He photographs beautifully. Those photo's of his modeling days were gorgeous.

Yes, there is and yes, it's insane.

Wonder what happened to Fredrik being so desperate to have a baby. He seems to have come to terms with not having one although if Jeff Lewis can do it and Nate Berkus can do it and Ricky Martin, Elton John and Neil Patrick Harris can do it, why couldn't he? Did he just give up? It was such a big, sad storyline for him last year.

I'm so happy the show is back! I just purely like watching these goofballs. The season preview showing Ryan talking to his therapist sounded a lot like Luis' angst before he quit real estate. Not sure what gets into him. After all their spats and pushing and drink throwing, I smiled bigly when Luis surprised Fredrik and they were both so delighted. Bygones!

I agree that New Guy looked a lot better in the modeling photos he pretended to be embarrassed about while allowing to be shown. He's got a massive ego, but so do all the other MDL agents, L.A. edition included. The two young cousins (pretending to?) list the floorthrough place were jerks but what else is new.

I tend to believe the owner that other residents don't use that smaller alcove/section off the larger roof terrace because it would be awkward for them as well, but the developer still should have walled it off.

This is how skewed I've become from watching this show -- $3M seemed really cheap to me for the mansion. Thanks for the info on it, @Writing Wrongs. What do you guys want to bet that there do, in fact, turn out to be problems with the foundation/structural integrity and the deal with the shorty developer falls through?

Emilia's sister moving in must be for Bravo drama. I'm so tired of getting hooked on a particular Bravo series (this being one of them) because it starts out very natural and believable then after a few years it turns so fake and scripted.

I was curious about the beautiful church that Frederik is attending. A bit of research, and with the help of google images, it is First Congregational Church of Washington (CT).

That is WEIRD. So other folks could be eating dinner al fresco outside your living room, with all that glass looking in at your!

Ryan was much better looking without the beard. I can't pinpoint who or what he reminds of, but it's not a good thing.

In NYC, brokers will often leave the paperwork with the sellers to sign and return after the listing appointment or they will messenger it for signature after the meeting.

The Gale house was one of the most interesting and unique listings I've seen on this show since the creepy brownstone listing of Ryan's in Murray Hill. The TriBeCa duplexes are drool-worthy but it's really fun to see the one of a kind places.

Either these sellers are actors or the producers prod them to play out the same tired script over and over again.

Probably think these confrontations over pricing makes for drama that brings in viewers.

Steve called one of the sellers "kind of a dick."  Would he really say that about a client and let himself be filmed saying it?

New guy, same old formula.  If there is some kind of drama with the sister in law, that will be manufactured too.

There have been interesting things going on with Manhattan real estate in this decade, with foreign buyers bidding up properties beyond the reach of many New Yorkers.  In some cases, kleptocrats use NYC real estate to park ill-gotten money there.  But of course you don't get any kind of serious examination or even a reference to this phenomenon on this show, just real estate porn and faked drama.

New guy is hot; reminds me of Keanu Reeves. The man bun & 'I'm a rebel who dresses however I want to meet with clients' attitude is excused by the pretty & by the fact that he called his rescue dog is best friend. But I am not looking forward to seeing him try to find the love of his life amongst shallow New Yorkers who discuss Botox over drinks.

Not looking forward to seeing Bethany Frankel. Cross promotion is not necessary, Bravo.

I vote good looking. Those clients were total dicks, with the trying to be such tough negotiators and the one with the fake accent. And I bet neither one's name was actually Steve.

It is extremely old. I'm sure selling NYC real estate is fraught with enough obstacles that would actually be interesting, without having to manufacture drama. And the trope of the client flouncing out of the restaurant, coffee shop, etc. when they do not get their asking price needs to go like yesterday.

Too bad Ryan doesn't have the resources to find sis-in-law a great place of her own. Oh wait..

Didn't George on Seinfeld date a woman who looked pretty only while seated at a certain booth at the diner? I agree that Steve has the pale, lanky white boy look. My dad, brothers, and various cousins have it too, although they are blondes or gingers.

So just so I have it straight. Fredrick's boss Howard tells him to get the buyer, who is a client of his firm, to come down on the price in order to make his FRIEND (who is such a good friend that they went with another broker) happy?   Nice to see you looking out for your agents Howard.  Fredrick should have tossed that smug curmudgeon his iPhone and said "here- YOU talk her into it."

Glad he got his friend up though but i was still annoyed.

Does Frederick really have a boss?  I thought he ran the offices in Sweden and NY.

With the amount of commissions he generates, he doesn't need to split it with anyone, though I guess if he splits it, he doesn't have to deal with the overhead of running an office, paying employees, etc.

Serhant Team is a real business or just a group within another RE company?

So why did Luiz leave the show?

He wanted to pursue other opportunities, but I'm not sure what those were.  I think he was still trying to figure that out last time we saw him on the show.  IIRC, he was at an open house in which there were a lot of other brokers much older than him.  He decided that real estate wasn't something he wanted to do until he retires.  He couldn't picture himself still in the business 30 years or so in the future.

I always thought that Fredrick was with Douglas Elliman in New York but that the office in Sweden was his real estate office, wholly owned by him.

Looks from the previews that we get to see Luis during one of Fredrik's talking heads.   When he's in an upbeat mode, Luis is fun to watch.

Admittedly, I miss the wacky, frenetic energy little Luis often brought to his segments. He was a goofy and often insecure little dude who was an interesting contrast to the cool confidence that Frederik and Ryan consistently bring. Plus it was always sorta amusing to watch Ryan/Frederik randomly pick at him, like cats toying with a mouse before they pounce on it. And his hair swoop and spastic excitement over his sales always made me giggle.

Jury's still out for me on the new dude, but I like him okay so far---he seems like a decent guy and is naturally pretty when he's not tightly pulling his hair back in that unflattering man-bun or showing off his furry chest pies((although his body is gorgeous, I'm just not into mega-hairy bodies)). Nice to see his sweet devotion to his rescue dog though and it was interesting hearing him describe his history and gradual adaptation to his Manhattan lifestyle.

Frederik is classic Frederik as usual; loved seeing his beautiful husband happily painting in their gorgeous weekend home. What a lavish lifestyle they share!

Ryan still remains my favorite though, despite the fugly new beard and the annoying new wife/sister-in-law. I can do without all their cutesy little staged interactions at home, thanks.

I see all the sellers are still told to behave like the clueless dickheads we love to hate: some things never change!

I've missed this show and it's real estate porn. And yes I still dearly miss "Selling New York."((damn you, HGTV!))

If anyone is missing Luis, you can follow his adventures in Paris on Instagram.

He's constantly posting "stories" about his daily life and seems to be enjoying it.  I think he's writing, taking acting classes and doing some motivational speaking, although I don't see everything he posts.  The MDLNY guys did visit him during Fredrik's 40th b-day, so I imagine that will be on the show later this season.

Steve isn't a bad addition to the show - he seems like a good guy and isn't ugly, lol.  I like his dog, Pablo.  Those guys he was dealing with were as he put it "d*cks."

I work on the same block as Ryan's Manhattan office and have seen him lately in the street.  He still has the beard, unfortunately.  I'd like to see more unique properties like the old mansion in Brooklyn.

I just want to use this space to quickly rant about how much I miss Selling New York and how it was, and still is, vastly preferable to HGTV's never-ending stream of shows involving a nondescript wife/husband house flipping team from Who The Fuck Cares, Random State, USA. I have a lot of feelings about HGTV.

Back on topic: Need to warm up to the New Guy, but I do like how lowkey baffled he was by both the seller's son and his realtor's asshattery.

I miss Luis and hope he managed to find happiness somewhere from real estate, for the time being.

Usually men's beards are more noticeably gray before the hair on his head.

Maybe because the hair isn't as thick on the face as it is on the scalp but it's more noticeable.

But for Ryan, it seems to be the reverse.

From far away he reminds me of Adam Driver but Steve is way better looking.  Very hard for me to remember his name though.  To me he doesn't look like a Steve, he's too hot.

What was fascinating to me about Luis was the intensity of emotions on his face.  You won't get that with blank-face Ryan or always fucking around Fredrik.  Luis felt things hard and deeply.  It was interesting, but maybe too intense for such a light show sometimes.

I'm always surprised there can be such diverse opinions when it comes to something as wholly subjective as evaluating appearances.  I found the hirsute Steve Gold unpleasant to look at.  Besides wishing to the gods that he would keep his shirt on, I kept wanting him to straighten up his old man posture and tighten up that loose-limbed shuffle commonly associated with burnt out stoners.

Other than that, I'm so glad this show is back!  I really do love it.
