Dash in Victoria is the same doggie that played Dash in Young Victoria with Emily Blunt.

Poor pooch...yet another case of type casting by Hollywood.

I love the idea of having some virtual tea. My whole life has been one big attempt to have a fancy tea like you see in movies.

I find it adorable that Dash is the same dog.

Has anybody ready any good, escapist historical fiction lately?

Thanks for that churching link.

I, too, was born in the 50's and my mother was given ether and was deathly ill from it and didn't get to see me for three days.  She said "never again" and had my brother (in the late 50's) and sister (in the late 60's) without any anesthesia or painkillers.  She loved being in the hospital for a week, although she was ambulatory, to rest up before going home to 24/7 baby care and homemaking.

Sending mothers home within 24 hours is just wrong.  Geez!  Your body's just been through a traumatic experience, not to mention the emotional aspect.  There's got to be a happy medium.  Unfortunately, the insurance companies probably don't care.

From the S2Ep1 thread.

Insurance companies don't care.  What's more, the time you have the baby makes all the difference.  Everything's counted at 12:01 a.m.  In 1993, I gave birth on a Wednesday at 12:13 a.m.  I was released on Friday.  My OB told me that had my son been born 15 minutes earlier, they would have had to release me on Thursday!

My husband was recently hospitalized and I had a similar conversation with a nurse who told me that the number of days is counted by where the patient is at midnight.

Oy! Did anybody notice that Victoria actually did say the words "we are not amused" last night.  I died laughing.

If anyone is interested in a similar series I discovered Ekaterina on Amazon Prime, about the life of Catherine the Great.  It's a Russian series with English subtitles.  The production is gorgeous, omigosh, the costumes and sets are incredibly opulent.  I'm only 3 (of 10) episodes in but am enjoying it a lot.  Fascinating story of a young girl who had to prove herself worthy, in this case, of marrying the heir to the Russian crown.  I recommend it!
