Spoiler Discussion Thread

Just when I'd accepted all the arguments, and resigned myself to it not being Felicity.... man, what a surprise that is.

I don't think I ever really let go of the notion that Felicity would be the person that Slade will save for last. Because way back in Three Ghosts, she was the person shown in Slade's monologue of "corrupt those he loves" then she was conspicuously not present at all in the 3-minute half-season trailer monologue. And there have been a lot of foreshadowing to her possible death/capture at the hands of Slade. Add that to the parallelism of Felicity being the Shado to Oliver now and how Slade has been surveilling Oliver and friends very closely the past few years... It works really well that she would be the "one more that needs to die" to really break Oliver, I'd say. Of course, I hope Felicity does have something up her sleeve and she injects Slade with the cure.

Additionally, I have to commend EBR's portrayal of Felicity so much. Since the very picture of her in peril, with crazy Slade behind her, is making my heart palpitate. I can honestly say that if Felicity Smoak never became a regular on the show, I might've dopped it long ago.

Yes, I really hope Felicity has the cure and injects Slade with it, giving Oliver the opportunity to save the day.  I also wonder if perhaps Felicity will end up killing someone (a soldier) to save Laurel/Sara which will lead to the corrupt those he loves.

I might have as well. I said back during season 1 that my enthusiasm was waning, and I wasn't really finding a whole lot to draw me to the show, until EBR was announced as a regular. And then we got the promo pics for Odyssey. And that was that. I couldn't wait to see her become part of Team Arrow.

As for those promo pics, I don't like 'em. Because even if they do show the person Oliver loves the most (and I'm not convinced they do, because I don't believe that Mirakuru gives you empathic powers. So how could Slade possibly know who Oliver loves the most? Did they have a sleepover and Slade started a conversation on, 'what girls do you have a crush on, Olly?'), I'd rather see Felicity not be in peril. Even though she's almost certainly not going to be killed (I say 'almost', because I'm not sure how crazy these writers are), she could still be damaged or have her relationship with Oliver compromised in some fashion as a Big Dramatic Cliffhanger moment. And I don't want one of those.

I'm not necessarily taking Felicity being taken by Slade as true evidence of who Oliver loves the most. (And I'm a shipper.) Oliver loves every person in his life in different ways, and honestly, Thea should be at the top of that list. But Slade is crazynuts, and this show has been paralleling Felicity and Shado for most of S2 including verbatim dialogue with 'my life, my choice.'

I think maybe Slade sees Felicity and Oliver's relationship being like his and Shado's, but he's a very unreliable narrator at this point, so I can't put much stock in what he thinks/says.

I do hope fervently that Felicity saves herself. She's smart, capable, and resourceful, and I want to see her use those skills against Slade. Then, Oliver can swoop in and arrow him in his one good eye.

The promo pictures show Laurel held by a Mirakuru soldier as well, so I wouldn't put it past this show to be doing another major misdirect - like, for instance, cheerfully releasing a picture of Laurel holding a compound bow with no further context, implying that she was going to be able to aim it.

The still of Nyssa attacking Isabel? Awesome.

I loved that scene of Nyssa picking up Isabel, removing her silly looking helmet so Sara can deliver the killing blow. I'm guessing that's going to show how well Sara and Nyssa worked as assassin partners. But what I really love is that other LOA guy just standing in the background just watching them.

First time poster! Love the discussions here. Do we know for sure that EBR is in season 3? I thought I had heard Sarah was confirmed for season 3. It would be sad if Felicity dies in finale because EBR "is going places" according to Colton's tweet. Very sad.

Yes, that's my one worry. If Felicity is Shado to Oliver's Slade, well we all know that Shado died so the other girl could live.

But it would be a stupid move for the show to do, given Felicity's popularity.

I doubt Felicity's dying. The show wouldn't be stupid enough to get rid of EBR.

EBR tweeted to Colton about seeing him next season. That sounds like confirmation she's in season 3 to me.

What made me nervous was Stephen Amell posting that "he was flabbergasted" when he read the script. Sarah dying would not do that. Everyone and their dog is waiting in fear of that. Laurel dying would be a surprise but flabbergast-ment? He is very aware of fan opinions. That's why I was thinking everyone's fave IT expert may be it. I'll stop watching if they kill off Felicity and keep Laurel.

That "flabbergasted" comment might not have anything to do with Laurel, Felicity or Sara at all, though. Amell tends to get mostly excited about the superhero moments, and honestly, reading that the Arrow would be walking along the streets flanked by the League of Assassins is a pretty flabbergasting moment.  As is something else that seems to be indicated in the previews: that Diggle is going to team up with Deadshot to take down ARGUS.  So any of that, or something similar, could be what he's talking about.

No more undead characters on this show. For the love of god, it just removes all of the gritty realism that the first season took such great pains to set up.

Malcolm's dead! Except not. Slade's dead! Except not. Isabel's dead! Except not. Sara's dead! Except not. No more names on that list, whether they be heroes or villains. Dead should be dead. If it isn't, then it's not scary any more, and why should I give a shit if someone is killed?

Not spoiler related but SA and EBR are the only two Arrow actors confirmed for Upfronts next week.  There might be others that aren't confirmed but these two will be there, if EBR was getting killed off she wouldn't be at the Upfronts, just like Colin Donnel wasn't there last year.

I must have missed him posting that. Maybe Laurel does die? That would kind of explain all the promotion of Oliver/Laurel, to throw us off and completely shock us when she dies.

I never thought I would be praying for a Jossing*.

* Joss Whedon is infamous for killing off one of an OTP that just gets together/realizes their love/cements their relationship, much to the misery of fans.

Fridge Horror moment: What if we get a combo of Oliver + Mirakuru and Laurel being killed in front of him? Then we have Crazy!Oliver with Ghost!Laurel talking to him forever.  *throws salt over shoulder and makes ward against evil*

Not spoiler related but speculation on the tidbits we know. It's just that when I look back at the last six months. If EBR is locked down for season 3, the following scenario makes some sense to me.

EPs realizing that there are Too many leading ladies. Sarah and Felicity are being critically received well, also strong arrow fan base. They decide to cut laurel from the roster. Stephen Amell suddenly backpedals on olicity and laurel gets her big story and redemption with Oliver saying he loves her in the finale- big sendoff for KC. If Sarah was going to die next week, wouldn't Caity Lotz be maximizing her PR opportunity while she has it.

Ok, I will admit this scenario has a pinch and dash of wishful thinking/bargaining.

Amell made a comment on his Facebook Q&A that when he read the finale, he said 'What? He's where?"

So I wonder if he's going to end back on the island or maybe even Nanda Parbat.

There were some pictures posted, EBR took a photo of SA and his daughter while out on location (looked very much like the island set). then she posted two more photos from what looked like the Island set (one with a man who may have been David Ramsey).  There's also a picture that Marc G tweeted out which was definitely from the Island set that appeared to have EBR and SA sitting together along with an unidentified woman with dark brown hair.

There seems to be good indication that Oliver ends S2 back on the Island along with Felicty and Diggle...not really sure how that's going to work.

What if they lose and have to retreat / are banished to the island?  Whoa, that could be bold.

What if the choice ends up being take the mirakuru or everyone ends up dead because Slade really wants to beat Oliver on a more even playing field, after destroying everything he cares about.  Then Oliver hallucinates his mom, who tells him she loves him, please go kill Slade, and then to contain the damage that they're causing to the rest of the city, Argus or someone ends up pumping both dudes full of venom and dumping them on the island, along with Felicity, who goes with to keep an eye on Oliver, while Diggle stays behind to help neutralize Argus, and Sara works with the science peeps at Star Labs to try and come up with a cure from scratch.

Boom.

That fits all spoilers. Unthinkable (Oliver willingly taking the mirakuru), how Oliver and Felicity end up on the island, how Slade could be defeated and yet survive to perhaps be a recurring character in season 3, why Susannah Thompson was on set after her character died, and the thing that the execs said awhile back about how the characters were going to start season 3 in a very different place.

That spoiler picture of the person who could be Dig on the island didn't look like Dig to me, for what it's worth.  It looked more like Marc Guggenheim.  It's just a backlit bald guy in the distance, but the posture and build didn't look right for David Ramsay, and we know for sure that MG was there on set.

I can't figure out how they go from the city to the island.  I think it would be a nice bookend to start and finish the season there but I can't see a reason WHY they would be there.

How they could be there might be a "borrowed" helicopter from Argus or maybe swipe a ship from the harbor?  It's the time lapse between a city on the west coast and a little death island in the China Seas that I can't account for.  Plus again, why would they be on the island?

The promo pics we have had seemed to indicate a showdown with Slade in an industrial setting. Unless he gases everyone, keeps them sedated and then releases them on the island like some Dr. Moreau hunt.  I could see this If there was enough time.  I suppose the Slade holding Felicity and the face off against the horde of Strokes could happen in the first half of the episode though the pacing feels off for that.

Maybe Central City looks like the island, and we get our first glimpse of it as they race to find more cures? Maybe it's the new park by Moira's grave and Slade felt they needed to be there?

I don't know. No idea. I legit have the hardest time trying to anticipate anything on this show.  They always go off on a surprising direction.  (Wait, Laurel's an addict? Hold up, Oliver knows Waller?  Huh, Oliver has a secret kid? Um, did no one explain how finances work to any of these people?)

However, it likely isn't this same endless night, at least. Those pictures were all shot in daylight.  So it's the next morning at the earliest, which means that they could probably make it on Isabel's shiny new QC yet, if they needed to?

Honestly I have no idea it really doesn't make much sense especially when you factor in the fact that 2.23 is supposed to run in nearly real time.

The only thing I can figure out is that maybe the stuff on the island is a flashback to something that happened i the premiere? Or maybe the last scene is a flash forward setting up the S3 premier?

What if the island scene is 5 years later, felicity and Oliver wake up with no memory.

Episode 1 of season 3 - they go back and meet up with black canary and suddenly hardcore manhunter/DA. Only way laurel suddenly is superhero worthy- time jump! ~Shudder~

Now that's unthinkable!

Yeah. It seems kind of silly to me. Hell, I thought it was silly when Oliver went back there after season 1 ended. I really wish that the island would just fade into the background a little bit, now. He's been back for two years, it's time to let it go. Slade dumping him back on the island would feel like the goofiest possible ending to the season, whether he's on his own or with Felicity and/or Diggle.

I'd rather that SA's shock about where Oliver ends up is because he defeats Slade and then goes to Monte Carlo to party for six months, using the money he reclaims from Isabel. Oliver getting drunk and playing blackjack? Yeah. Dude needs a break.

I wish there was a way to find out how many scenes have been filmed on the island vs Starling City, because I'd be willing to bet we've spent more time with Oliver on the island than back home.

It feels about even to me but I've noticed that they swing wildly in terms of screentime.  This year there have been several island heavy chunks, though.

What about the baby?  I can't believe Oliver and Felicity spend 5 years alone on the island and there isn't even one baby.

Oh, I'll play this game.  :D

Oliver, shirtless, between the soft sheets and a fluffy comforter.  Cue a certain blond rolling over.  End scene.

And, invariably, I find them as dull as shit. None of it really matters, because the outcomes are foregone conclusions. I know the ship will be sunk, Slade and Sara will be 'killed' and Oliver will make friends with Anatoly. I don't really care how they get to that, because I've learned enough from inference in the present day to satisfy me.

It would be sadly ironic if, next season, the present day scenes are on the island and the flashbacks are in Starling City.

Oliver, shirtless, between the soft sheets and a fluffy comforter.  Cue a certain blond rolling over.  End scene.

That works too. The pair of them need a break, and some genuine, lighthearted fun. If that fun is in the form of hot sex, then so much the better. In fact, Felicity could help him in the casino as well, as I believe she copped to being able to count cards, back in season 1.

So that's where the card-counting comes from, Felicity was from Vegas. Maybe they do think long-term on this show after all.

The soft sheets works for me but not the comforter. It gets pretty hot in Monte Carlo this time of year.

(The broke/Monte Carlo/cards reminds me of when I was in school and watching General Hospital (what?  Everyone in college did) and billionaire Jax had lost all his money and was counting on V to help him win a high stakes chemin de fer game to win it back.)

I think it's more the reverse hey lets come up with a back story for Felicity. Wait we had her counting cards in the one episode lets make her from Vegas!

Quite honestly they could have gone with the card counting as being part of her genius/MIT background like that movie with Kevin Spacey.

That's what I thought too. When you say 'card counting' to me, I invariably think of Rain Man first. And it was his mathematical ability that let him do it, rather than knowledge of gambling. I figured it Felicity's intellect and her analytical skills that allowed her to count cards.

1

We can have both. She knows all about gambling because she's from Vegas and she's skilled at counting cards because of her mathematical/logical prowess.

I'm hoping that the "What? He's where?" clue that Stephen gave in that Facebook thing is that we'll be done with the island in the flashbacks and Oliver will be elsewhere next season. Like, say, Russia with Anatoli? Then we can have the Oliver becoming a Bratva Captain and learning Russian flashbacks. And since they like to make parallel storylines in the present, the show can delve into the DC archives for mobsters/organized crime family units for Team Arrow to takedown.

Forget the island, the flashbacks to this point are what I want in S3. ;-)

As for the new pics from the finale, could someone please put a bandage on poor Felicity's head wound?  Geesh.  It's been long enough that Roy's up and about, they've made their way to the old lair and she's still got an untreated, uncovered head wound.

Yes to Oliver embracing his, yes to Sara accepting herself as a hero, yes to Diggle and Felicity, a maybe yes to Thea (with Merlyn?) as long as it well written. But a firm 'no' to Laurel as anything but a lawyer or Manhunter.

Sadly, I think it means (at least partly), "Stop bitching about Laurel, fans. She's awesome! Look!"

Though how she has any particular destiny, I have no idea. She's been directionless, pointless and contradictory for her entire existence.

I forgot about Roy. (You reminded me, Danny Franks, because I know you care for him.)  Roy walking down the street with Oliver, Diggle and Sara is his destiny to be on Team Arrow.

Anyone think that what happens to Sara (is she dead? is she alive?) will be one of the cliff-hangers?

If he's Mirakuru-free, big dope, Roy Harper again, I can deal with him being back on Team Arrow. Still don't care for the character, though. Never have, in comics or on this show.

As for Sara, I think she probably 'dies' on the island in the finale. It would be shitty to have her die for real in the present as well, but that might be something the showrunners think is awesome and cool. Especially if they get to have Laurel pick up Sara's mask and pull a 'determined and vengeful' face. Ugh.
