Books vs Show Comparisons

I noticed he's no longer a Vietnam vet, but Afghanistan.  It's certainly been updated - I watched episodes 5 - 8 tonight and was noticed the Ferguson, MO. comment from Rev. Ott.  Pretty current!  And, yes, they DO still make flip phones - I have one. LOL.

Also, the resolution to the Brasher plot was quite different in the books and the show!

I remember Irving being much more unlikable in the books than in this series.

He was. I was kind of surprised to see that Irving was an ally in the show.

Season 2 runs plots from three books: Trunk Music (the porn/mob guy's murder), The Drop (Irving's son's death), and The Last Coyote (his mother's murder). I don't think I read the last one, I don't remember much about the Irving's son book but the one I do remember very well is Trunk Music. That book stuck out in my mind because I remembered that the whole Vegas mob plot (that spans the first two-thirds of the book) was all a red herring because it turned out the wife did it.

It WAS neat how they managed to tie two of the plots together on the show, I thought it was nicely done.

Trunk Music (the porn/mob guy's murder), The Drop (Irving's son's death), and The Last Coyote (his mother's murder)

While the subjects are the same as in the books, they've changed a lot of the details and circumstances. Solving his mother's murder was a lot more convoluted in the book. Irving's son's death had nothing to do with him being under cover, and there are no connections between his death with the mob guy's death in the book.

It'll be interesting to see what they plan to do with the Eleanor and daughter characters in season 3 if they get renewed, because their character arcs have deviated quite a bit now compared to the books.

If they do get renewed for Season 3 and they have the budget to shoot in Hong Kong, it would be interesting to see them do Nine Dragons.

I love this representation of the Bosch books. The guy playing Bosch may be younger but is dead on correct to the Bosch in my head. I love him. Really hoping for season 3.

Long time fan of the Bosch book series here. It took me three or four episodes to really warm up to Welliver as Bosch. He was different looking in my mind - always a problem after one has read so many books with a recurring character. But he's won me over. It was also a bit jarring to start so far into the series and see the plots all mixed up, but I went with the flow and really enjoyed it, especially the second season. The casting is excellent in general, and they manage to reproduce the tense conflict that drives the books so well.

Particularly nice detail - they emphasize the hallways whenever possible. Those long, dark, enclosed spaces are no doubt as a shout out to Bosch's fear of dark tunnels. I am gratified father/daugher relationship rings genuine as well.

I hope there's a Season 3, even though the book set in Hong Kong is by far my least favorite of the series.

Michael Connelly tweeted that season 3 will be based on Black Echo and elements from A Darkness More Than Night
