  1. Some of you mentioned that the game ended with some bank squares. I thought there was a "rule" that all questions on the tournament games had to be covered to avoid any unfairness. Did I dream this?
  2. It would take too long to go though the archives, but I don't recall a TOC game with such low scores on the first day. The questions seemed hard to me (but they frequently are) so I don't know if that was the problem or not. The grumpy in me would say they were having too much fun and not concentrating enough. The antics at the beginning reminded me of when we were trying to get the teenagers lined up for their club pictures and they were trying to outdo each other with their foolishness... This is certainly anyone's game - Thursday's scores won't matter much at all...
  3. I worried about Lisa - that looked like a full-blown panic atttack, and I've heard that they are very frightening, much like a heart attack. I bet she was one of those students who put lots of pressure on herself to always make A's no matter what. It did look like something happened between J and DJ. What on earth was Buzzy doing in the opening intro. Looked like he was imitating some silly strlet from a 1930's movie... Whoever wins tonight's game is who I'm rooting for...
  4. I am ready for this TOC to be over - just 2 more days and we won't have to see that smug face again. Was that shtick at the beginning him being so bored he was falling asleep? Was Alex razzing him a little when he mentioned the gestures he went through to illustrate his trip? And he didn't have to smirk when Alex asked if he got FJ right. He got the win but it really seemed that Andrew outplayed him. Now I'm rooting for Buzzy, Jason or Alan to bring him down...
  5. I enjoyed Andrew so much first time around. I thought he had the most wicked smile - I would have loved being in his class. I seem to think some found him smug before, but when you look at all his degrees, etc., it seems that he is just extraordinarily smart. When he was on before, I googled him and ended up on Oberlin's website where the students can make comments about their teachers - they were all very complementary. Teachers of any sort get so few kudos that these tributes were quite noticeable. I'd really like to see him take the TOC from Austin...
  6. All of you who were guessing states should be proud. I would have answered "selling apples on the street" and left it at that. I see "this state" now but under pressure I would have gone for the job. I frequently have a problem with the way they word the FJ clue I only knew about the apples from some old Bette Davis movie and my parents' stories of the Depression. They were always trying to find people who didn't drink coffee so they could trade their ration slips for sugar to get more coffee.
  7. ChicagoCita, I miss Tom Nissley too - he's my all time favorie J champion (with 35+ years of watching). I got too disappointed with the TOC where he lost to Roger Craig and I have tried to not get so invested in the game since. Best contestant exchange ever: Alex "I see your wife has a shiny vinyl purse business, what does that mean? Tom "Well, Alex, they're shiny and they're made of vinyl." Alex was speechless for once, just smiled and went on to another contestant...
  8. What was that pointing to the sky thing that Alex and buzzy did? Was that supposed to mean something? I don't mind Buzzy too much except for a grown man still having such a silly nickname... I liked Pranjal more than most of you did it seems, UNTIL on his last game when he did all that waving his hands and calling for the judges to consider about his answer while Alex was tryig to wind things up. And...I hate boad hopping! I was definitely rooting for Hunter last night - he played serious, no-frills games his first time around and just didn't get a buzzer break last night. For some reason I haven't been nearly as excited about this lineup for the TOC. Only two women and I couldn't stand Lily before and I don't remember Lisa...
  9. Oh boy, food on Wednesday. We'll be treated to Whoopie chewing with her mouth open for the whole hour! Flake is awful good to look at, but .......way too conservative for me. He does seem decent and one who cares about the country when he talks, unlike.....
  10. I don't know anything about script writing, but if they knew they were going to have a second season, I would have preferred our last shot to be him rowing away and not knowing what happened.... I really enjoyed this 6 part mini series and would definitely be in for another season, but not if Ioan is only in flashbacks. (Think how lame Ray Donovan was this year with Abby only in flashbacks... If you're a Ioan fan and missed "Forever" check it out. He's absolutely perfection in it and there's a nice love story also...
  11. I'm a little vindicated now about my reaction to Kara since so many of you found her odd also. Of all the reactions to getting a DD - why on earth would you get huffy and eye-rolling at having to bother with giving a wager? That makes no sense to me. I didn't like the way she grabbed Alex's hand (very presumptuous) and does any adult still do legos?
  12. Maybe no one got Marlon Brando because it was such a young picture. Unless you're on up in years , you may have never seen him when he was young and handsome. I was very proud of Kelvin. I have several friends with autism spectrum grandchildren and all of them are very high functioning and excellent readers. Good on Jeopardy for giving them a chance to participate on the show.
  13. All one needed for FJ was knowing who won best actor in 1992, but I don't remember Oscar trivia that exactly. However 1992 was a major year for me because Clint finally got his best director award and Robert Downey Jr. was robbed of his perfect, seamless Chaplin. It wasn't just an impersonaation - he actually became Chaplin. I'm still bitter that hammy hoo-ha won his category. (All just my "unbiased" opinion of course). Love the new champ - she has a sense of humor without being silly and a lovely smile. Alex seemed to get a kick out of her too...
  14. Even as vile as Bitsy was, she was no where near Meghan. When she shushed everybody yesterday and said "It's my job to explain all this to you" ( or similar to that - I didn't write down the exact quote) She's just burnt her last chance with me. Did anyone catch the look on Joy's and Whoopi's face at that point? I don't think Joy is channeling Morning Joe or CNN. She is extremely well-read and very insightful into political ideas and has lived long enough to remember all the historical references. She's fully capable of expressing her own views without depending on MSNBC for anecdotes...
  15. I'm so glad that Margo Martindale was not a TS for so many of you. I think she is just amazing in everything she does - I loved her before Justified but that did it for me. Her Emmy acceptance speech for that still remains the best I ever heard, the gist of which was "when good things come late in life you appreciate them more." She needs to be back on my TV soon... For you mystery readers, Louise Penny was a TS last night, and I can readily recommend her. Lovely quiet mysteries with a town of wonderful characters. I'm surprised Alex didn't point out that she's Canadian. Oh boy, another accent for Alex. He has added Monty Python to the mix...
