  1. I hope J.K. Simmons will forgive me for momentarily being unable to call his name. I have loved his work since Oz, my first "serious" cable drama. He was an electric, believable Nazi type. Such a multidimensional actor...
  2. I like the new champ also. She has the pleasant demeanor of Julia Collins, and I hope she stays awhile. Love anyone who isn't smug and starts at the top. Had no clue on jellyfish, but that's OK with me - I don't intend to ever be in the presence of any marine creature....
  3. Had she won without saying Cormac on the FJ, I would have questioned the judges' decision, but since she didn't... It definitely required the first name because that was the one that was changed... I tried reading some Cormac McCarthy - just couldn't even get into it...
  4. You all who got Castro should be proud. First of all, I've always thought he was short (seem to remember Barbara Walters interviewing him arm in arm and she was taller) and there are lots of men with straggly beards. The year makes sense, though, so I should have gotten it. New champ seems pleasant and hope he stays a few days. The games have seemed slow to me lately - don't know if it's the end-of-season drag, or what. We only have 2 weeks left after this one....
  5. Am I the only doofus sitting at home today, waiting for Idris Elba to come onstsage? What was all that blather about? Have that man come on the show and talk!! And Joy's right - Luther is a wonderful, dark police series, if you enjoy that sort of thing. Several seasons are probably available...
  6. Next week it's 3 days of hot topics and 2 days of Kaitlyn Jenner as co-host. Was it that hard to find someone with a new book or movie to promote? No one who is involved in political things? No one funny?
  7. Last night's FJ "Goodnight, Moon" answer reminded me of my favorite "The Wire" episode. The lady cop (can't rememer character name) is reading to her baby, sitting on the winow ledge: "Goodnight popo, goodnight drugdealers, goodnight thieves, .... FJ made me realize again how lucky all of you are who are no more than 60ish. I came along too early to get all those wonderful children's books like Dr. Seuss, Maurice Sendak, etc. However I do have wonderful memories of the trip to the library every Saturday with my father to load up for the week.
  8. Can anyone clear up what Clint said in his interview last night? Surely I heard wrong because I thought it was something like he wasn't really named for his family's home country but he was named for Clint Eastwood so "he wouldn't be a Jew"? Someone please tell me I misheard, but I ran it back because I couldn't believe it....
  9. I would never have gotten FJ as I was sure latitude was width (from the Latin word for wide) and longitude was length (also from the Latin). I'm terrible in anything geographic but if they had said name the longest, skinniest country I'd be right there with Chile. I like the new champion - at least he seems happy to be there, and I love a man in a pink shirt! Please start at the top of each category and keep the sunny smile...
  10. Backformore, wonderful concise explanation on the discrimination discussion! I think that's what Joy was trying to get to, but yours was so clear and understandable. I enjoyed Julie Andrews too, but I sure would be ecstatic with a yearly visit from Angela Lansbury. She hasn't been on in so long, and I am afraid we may lose her before we get to see her again...
  11. I too enjoyed the Neil DeGrasse Tyson story about Stephen Hawking. I was trying to remember exactly what Hawking said to his question - it was quite perfect in its simplicity. Anyone remember exactly? Next time I write these words of wisdom down to keep.
  12. But still no possible date for the return? I want to know,so I can put it on my programming schedule....
  13. I'm going to start watching the clock to see at what point in the show I first yell out "Shut the ...up. Jediblabla." Today it was at the 2 minute moment. For the life of me I don't understand why she has to go first every single day. Perhaps on days other than Friday, the moderator could be a little more forceful in guiding the conversation - indicating to someone ELSE that they might like to speak first... On the topic of Trump lies today, I thought someone with a rudimentary knowledge of the human psyche would suggest that it's part of being a sociopath. There are people that feel the need to build everything into something greater than it is and make themselves look better. He has no self esteem without the lies...
  14. These last two episodes have seemed to be better staged or something. I have loved this series since it started and it has given me some new insight into our dogs' thoughts. I always knew they assumed the house was theirs and we were the devoted caretakers, beholden to their every need. I never knew they might have deep thoughts like Martin though. Such a sweet, hopeful show - very sorry it has been canceled. ABC is usually a little slower to call it quits than that. I knew not go get hopeful about it...
  15. Any word on when this starts up again?
