  1. You can bet I was rooting for Nilanka because of the Latin also! He seemed like he really enjoyed taking the class and that always makes me feel so good. I did that too back in the day, but they had to bring printed proof and we stuck it up on the bulletin board under the heading "Latina non est mortua."
  2. It seemed from Alex's reading of the category that he had never heard of Chinese restaurants having zodiac placemats. I found that both odd and sad...
  3. I never understand all the financial dealings on this show, but surely I would have remembered if David Straithairn had been on before. He doesn't show up on TV very often and I almost didn't recognize him as he looked so much better than the last time I saw him (being murdered on Blacklist, I think). He's one of favorites. Somebody tell me if he has been on before because I'll have to go back over old episodes
  4. I continue to be amazed that so many episodes have a scene where someone says "You don't understand what it is to lose a child, Commissioner." Surely word has gotten around? I found the reveal to Reverend Potter (several episodes ago) the most heart-rending and thought at the time that maybe their standoff woul be eased a little. Gotta say, I enjoyed Jamie making the IA stooge do all the maintainance checks kinda cute. Of course that was before he knew her story. I'm probably one of the few here who wants Eddie back as his partner...
  5. I sure wish they had spent more time with the trio from "Going in Style" To me, if you have a famous raconteur (Caine), a man with the voice of God (Freeman) and a man who's funny without trying (Arkin) use them. Talk to them about perhaps 1. their personal favorite movie, 2. your favorite movie and why, 3 their families, their future plans, etc. I wanted to see more pictures of Michael's grandkids. Can you imagine having a grandpa who would never run out of stories?
  6. Once again, crazy me. I thought a raptor was any generic bird of prey. Who knew it was prehistoric. Is there really such a thing as sauerkraut ice cream? Why would anyone do that....
  7. I hate it when Alex says "We'll give it to you" (like "it's wrong but we make allowances...") then doesn't say what they did want. If it's the picture I'm thinking of , it may have been in a book of shots from the Great Depression. (not sure) Sorry, I'm already finding Abigail tedious. Why in the world would someone hold their buzzer aloft for an entire taping? The Statue of Liberty lady several years ago had hers up above her head, so I'm going to call Abigail Joan of Arc. I truly hate the lengthy asking for the topic. "Please Alex" is not required for each time. We've been told by former contestants many times that they are asked specifically NOT to do that---so don't do that.
  8. I can't wait until Thursday! There's only one man in Hollywood I love more than Michael Caine and that's Clint Eastwood but I don't think he's doing interviews anymore. Michael is such a wonderful storyteller and a real ham. I love his honesty when someone asks about his many "bad" movies. He says "Well, that one paid for my mother's house" that one "paid for my daughters' educations" etc. I think his movie that starts Friday might be the very thing to raise our spirits....
  9. The 2 sisters Olivia and Joan were my choice for the next feud. That feud has always fascinated me because I can't imagine anything better to live your whole life into the 90's and Olivia is 100 with a sister. I think I've read it was some rivalry over a man - makes it even sillier than it might have been. I also thought Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton could make a good story. Didn't I read that next season is going to be Charles and Diana? Think I'll skip that one...
  10. If they had added the information about Pence not eating with any other woman that it was originally a rule that Billy Graham had made for himself. Perhaps no on the panel has ever had the privilege of growing up in a strict, conservative Baptist church back in the 50's when Billy was considered next to God. (sarcasm intended). That would have made it not so weird. It was simply his way of making sure he was never tempted to do anything shameful against his wife. I still don't want guy day Friday unless it's Mario Cantone or someone equally funny like Louis CK. Alex was pleasant and said only positive stuff, didn't make any arrogant comments like some of them did. Didn't he go with Madonna? The last 2 days have been fun (except of the Jedi) and they all seemed to enjoy each other's company. I think Joy is enjoying the discussions with the "young ones" (TM Regis Philbin)
  11. Personally I didn't mind missing the flag category because most flags look alike to me. (I know that's weird), but you all would have gotten your questions if Alex hadn't used valuable time to blather about Canadian geese....
  12. I sure thought that Russian leader died from plutonium poisoning...
  13. There are no words for how much I love Lily Tomlin! That was a good interview but I wish they had talked more to Lily and have her tell stories about knowing Richard Pryor and growing up in Detroit. She is my one brush with celebrity. She was in Dallas 40 years ago or so to speak at a NOW meeting in this mansion on Swiss avenue. Only the rich donors got in the house and the rest of us had to crowd around on the lawn, milling and pushing. She stayed out there with us for a long time and I actually got to shake her hand and thank her for years of entertainment and thought-provoking characters. She's much tinier than you might expect... Good show today except for the insufferable Jedi. Can't someone---anyone---go first on the comments just once. And please, no more man Friday!
  14. I came here to say whar ProudMary just said, ony better. I had never heard of him and was mightily impressed. Wikipedia says he can read and speak 11 European languages and does his research in the language of his topic. He needed to be listened to and respected more, but Bill always has to go for the joke. I would have liked for him to be the opening segment where bill is often calmer...
  15. They just need to give Hal his supporting Emmy right now and not wait for the ceremony. I have always found him so amazing as an actor. I think he must have been channeling how much he misses Dixie Carter, or maybe he is just that fine an actor... We saw that Amelia's mother was Tyne Daly,so she needs to return and tell her what's what and take her far, far away...
