  1. S02.E08: Dear Mrs. Kennedy

As an American citizen and not a citizen of the Commonwealth, Mrs. Kennedy would not be required curtsy, although the other breeches were noticeable. Having said that, there's no way the Kennedys called her by the wrong name. They would have been briefed accordingly. Unlikely place for me to find an article about the meeting: https://www.rd.com/culture/when-jackie-kennedy-met-the-queen/
  2. Unpopular Opinions Thread

Well, then I'm being unkind about his speech. Sorry about that!
  3. Unpopular Opinions Thread

If we never saw Jack again, I'd be cool with it. He looks like he needs a shower and shampoo. And I'm not a fan of his speech pattern - half the time, it sounds like he's slurring his words, and he can't be drunk all the time.
  4. History Talk: The British Monarchy

I have a question that I have not seen asked or answered, although it's possible that I've missed it. With regard to protocol, I've read several places that people are not to turn their back on the queen as it is considered rude; however, I don't see this being followed by most of the characters on the screen - I don't seen people "backing out" of the room, for example. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks in advance.
  5. S02.E14: Super Bowl Sunday

As the mother of three girls, and the wife of a man who played college football and who loves all things football, not once, ever, in our lives did he say he needed "some boys" in the house. His now-grown daughters adore him, he adores them, and I adore the fact that he never, ever expressed the "need" for a son.
  6. S02.E10: Number Three

Right - I went to school at the University of Delaware. NEWark (as she pronounced it) is NJ. New-ARK is DE :)
  7. S02.E03: Déjà Vu

I can't believe I missed that. I adored Randi (Randi!)
  8. S01.E03: Kyle

I'm enjoying this show. I particularly like Randall's story, but very much enjoy Rebecca. Jack looks too greasy and unwashed for my tastes. The thing I'm happiest about is that chances are I won't "ship" any of these couples, which means it's probable my heart won't be broken no matter what happens (I'm looking straight at you with hate in my eyes, Shonda Rhimes). I wonder what the reveal will be about Miguel and I hope Randall's heart won't be broken by William (Shakespeare!!)
  9. S08.E04: Weathering Heights

I'm a speech therapist. No, just no to what you saw. On the other hand, Gloria's "American" voice was funny. I also enjoyed hearing and seeing that Manny appreciated not only his mom's, but Jay's influence on his life. Poor Alex. The way her family treats her has veered past funny into bullying.
  10. Kate: Chrissy Metz

When I was in high school, way back in the 70s, I was 5'6" and weighed 135 pounds. I thought I was fat. Not in an anorexic way (and my heart goes out to people who suffer with that) but compared to other girls, I thought I was fat, and so did my mother. I went to Weight Watchers. I drank skimmed milk, I exercised, I counted calories. I deprived myself. I was an athlete, too, so I was physically active and I had no bus, so walked about 1.25 miles to and from school. I didn't binge drink, and we didn't have junk in the house. Fast forward to today - I've spent more time, money, and energy trying to lose 70 pounds than most moderately overweight people every dream of spending. I finally went to a functional medicine doctor and we did a ton of tests, only to find out amazing things about why it is so miserably difficult for me to lose weight. Yes, I can eat two slices of wheat bread, a slice of American cheese, and two eggs, and be physically hungry an hour later. As a poster upthread said, bread, cereal, and carbs are my mortal enemies. Two of our three daughters are morbidly obese - they weren't as children - I cooked real food and we didn't have junk in the house - but when they hit about 18 years old, the weight piled on. Our middle one played soccer in two different leagues year round until she tore her ACL. It's not as though she was a lazy person. Two of their female cousins on my husband's side of the family had the same massive weight gain. There is more at work here than just "mom and dad didn't monitor what they ate" or that fat people don't know they're at risk for severe medical problems. Science is finding out more and more about what's happening with our bodies. Suffice it to say this is a recent phenomenon, since while we've always had heavy people, now we have enormously heavy people in our American society. There's something more going on than a lack of self control. Everyone who is morbidly obese knows it. It may be something they/we don't discuss, but trust me, they know.
  11. S01.E02: The Big Three

I'd suggest it's less about underlying mental issues and more about metabolic syndrome, PCOS, thyroid problems, or other issues. I'm not saying that she may not have some other things going on, but it looked to me that she began gaining weight at a young age, unlike her brothers who could eat anything they wanted. That leads me to think it's physical.
  12. S01.E02: N-E-NEW A-I-AIDE

I'm still enjoying the show via DVR (although the AAC set up JJ's using kills me - so many better systems, but I get why they're doing it) but why does JJ have his aide outside of school and why is he driving JJ to school? Why the hell did the mom barge into the boy's/men's room? Just no. As ridiculous - a physical therapist just picking up and working on someone without a plan of care and a doctor's referral. Bye bye, license. And I have no respect for a parent who argues about paying for a therapist's time. I understand poetic license, but it's not hard to get it right while telling the story.
  13. S08.E01: A Tale of Three Cities

I enjoyed pretty much everything about this episode, and especially liked Jay continuing to screw up "double click."
  14. S01.E01: Pilot

Dumbass number three here. I was very confused - "Why is Walter Cronkite on the tv? Why are people smoking in the hospital?" It wasn't until I read online afterward about the "twist" that I went back and watched the ending again. Yes, I said, "D'OH!" as I smacked m y head.
